My husband and I are having the hardest time getting our dog to behave. He's a pain in the rear. I have tried all the positive rienforcement I can, I shower him with love but he's still a turd. He goes crazy on walks and would rather try to kill himself chasing a lizard then heel...

Any advice? I'm 17 weeks pregnant and worried that he isn't going to behave around that baby.

side note, all websites say that basenji's learn by love. My husband does a very good job of being "pack leader" but the dog responds better to me... I have no idea. I have Rotts, bull dogs... so any other dogs and never any problems... this little dude is stubborn.

The word of mouth I have is that Basenjis are very smart and very headstrong and will tend to push their people around if allowed. I agree with Phoenix, be the alpha in your "pack" if you want his respect and obedience.

Dogs are unique, I haven't met a whole breed that was 'bad'.

You may actually want to contact a trainer with bully breed experience, since you have had a rotty, you know training is a bit different, and a bully experienced trainer will be very familiar with working with stubborn dogs.

You do not train a dog by showering it with love. You have to be the pack leader. You have to show your dominance. It's all in your attitude.

Be the pack leader.

I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT BASENJI'S EXCEPT THEY'RE SUPER SENSITIVE AND BARKLESS. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN CURIOUS ABOUT THEM AND SMART ENOUGH IT'S NOT THE BREED FOR ME.
TRY A CHOKE CHAIN FOR WALKS ONLY. FOR A BIT MORE MONEY YOU CAN GET A HALTIE AT THE PET STORE. THEY'RE NOT AS HARSH AS A CHOKER, BUT MORE EFFECTIVE.
