lynchy is my husbands dog. i dont have much say in is disciplin or the way he was raised, my hubby wants him to be a guard dog. so he never took him to the dog park or anywere else there's dogs. so he only had my chihuahua, whom he loved verymuch!! we had molley(chihuahua) before lynchy when we got lynchy he was a puppy and molley was the dominant dog :) she always put lynchy in his place which was so cute. lynchy acts very different now that molley is gone. but lynchy is very good with humans we have a 3 yr. old and hes amazing with him! lynch always acts tough around people at first but he loves them and hes always gentle with people never nipped at anyone just barks at first. thats something else my husband tried to do was not to let new people around lynchy but i changed that. i want him to like people, he has too!!!

My family has fostered rotts more many many years, and I know how stubborn they can be. Especially when it comes to a new addition.

Has the dog been aggressive towards unfamiliar dogs in the past? It obviously isn't dog aggression if he has lived with a dog in the past. And since you've had a smaller dog in the past, it isn't a size/dominance thing.

You may want to try taking the dog to petsmart, or other animal friendly store, to expose him to other dogs. He may also still be grieving, and is being territorial of you.

Go slow, you can't force him to be ok with a new dog.It may have also been that particular pup, ask the shelter if you can come in and meet a few potential new family members, and see how Lynchy reacts to all of the dogs.

Maybe Lynchy misses the Chihuahua too and isn't ready for a new companion. Or maybe he just didn't want that particular dog for a new companion. Maybe Lynchy is still grieving. Or maybe the puppy was just too rambunctious for Lynchy and he was just disciplining the puppy?

How is Lynchy with other dogs? Was he properly socialized to other dogs? Also, you don't say how old Lynchy is.

If the chihuahua was there first, it would make since that Lynchy was attached to her - especially if he was a pup when you got him, as he grew up with her. That doesn't mean he is going to like all dogs. Introduce him to some others until you find one that is a good match. You might also consider an adult instead of a young pup. Adult dogs don't always have much tolerance for puppies.

getting a new dog all depends on lynchy if he wont accept a new companion then thats his choice. you cant make him get along with another dog if he doesn't accept it. my oldest sbt hates other dogs but accepted a puppy (named levi) when levi who is now nearly 2 years grew up we tried to get another puppy. max our oldest accepted it again but levi wouldn't so we never got that 3rd dog. we just accepted the fact that what we have was meant to be.

Play biting may be very natural, he'll develop out of it ultimately. You need to reply with a stern "NO". Sometimes you'll use whatever known as "Bitter Apple", its a secure spray that tastes very sour.. you'll spray it on some thing adding your palms and sneakers. When he places his mouth on it.. it'll style sour and discourage the conduct a little bit. They promote the spray at such a lot puppy retail outlets.

Just keep looking. He might not have liked that one puppy. I'd give it some more time. Let him make the decision about who he wants to have come and live with him. It's very possible he'll fall in love with one but he needs to do it on his terms.
I know it's frustrating but be patient. He'll let you know what dog is right for you. Don't give up!
Good luck.

I am sorry to say that some dogs are meant to be the only dog in the house. Good Luck.

I WOULD CONTACT YOUR NEAREST SHELTERS, EXPLAIN THE SITUATION, AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOUR WHOLE FAMILY, INCLUDING LYNCHY ( UNUSUAL NAME??), TO PICK OUT ANOTHER DOG.

i would suggest ,if you still want chuhuahua, to get another like your first one. if you do not want another one then give him some time and he will be more then glad to help you pick a new companion. If he doesn't seem to like any of them then maybe you were not meant to have a new one.

my rottie mix did the same thing....we had a chihuahua and they got along wonderfully...and when we lost him the rottie mix would not let another dog around him....so i dont know maybe its grief issues.
