I'm having trouble teaching my dog how to get my attention when he needs to go potty. He knows when he needs to go so he just leaves and goes without me noticing. He knows not to potty on the carpet so he goes into the kitchen or bathroom where there is flooring and lets it all out.

How can I get him to scratch the door or make obvious suggestions or get my attention let me know he wants to go potty so that I can send him outside?

We had our little 11 lb Jack Russel Terrior eat 1 SMALL pepper mint patty. There was less that a 1/2 oz of milk chocolate on that patty. The dog was fine and had no bad reaction. Being told chocolate was bad for dogs we called the vet. The vet told us to induce vomitting by giving her 1 tsb. of salt in the back of the mouth. That made her vomit alright. She kept vomitting until she was vomitting blood. Well then the vet admitted her into their hospitol. Since the salt incident ( 4 days ago) she keeps throwing up when given soft foods. The dog is still in the hospitol under their care, and says something has upset her stomach and they can't calm it down. Do you think it was the salt?? What should we do? The animal hospitol doctors seems like she does not know what she is doing and is killing our dog. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jack Russel Terrior owner.

We have a housecat, 3 yr old and a 7 yr old child. We have a nice, fenced, landscaped back yard. We want an indoor/outdoor short haired, smaller breed that wont desroy our home and garden or try to escape everytime we open the door.
We know we seem picky but we believe better safe than sorry...for both us and the dog. Was thinking of a malti-poo or some sort of poodle mix.

I had a very intellegent German Shepherd/Austrailian Cattle Dog cross ..that seemed more thoughtful , sensitive and loving than many people I've known . There is no doubt in my mind that he ran a gamut of emotions and many times had a pretty complicated thought process going , like a really bright 2 or 3 year old kid. He also loved music esp. the blues and hard rock and he would howl along in in a real bluesy way and in tune more often than not it seemed. Kids just loved him and he was pretty patient with them , but catching frisbees , interupting us during ..,yeah you guessed it , and howling the blues was his favorites things in life ...along with occasionally trying to park his 95 lbs in your lap as if he were still a 10 lb puppy. He'd only do that if nobody were around though , because he also liked to think he was too cool or macho I guess to be seen like that. - To me if God exsists and is good, then this dog should have at least the same chance as I to go on .

my 13 mo old lab mix tore her paw pad while hiking with me. it is not bleeding, but it is hanging a bit loose. i think it will fall off eventually. i have cleaned it and have a sock on her paw. this seems a bit more extreme than the cuts i have read about online. any advice? i will go to the vet on monday if she is still limping.

my dog has had a few bowel, "digesteve problems" and cant poop norrmal. so the guy i took him too told me to wait an hour after he eats, then I have to manually stimulate his anal glands with my finger inside him to releive the blockage so it will come out. the only thing is that it all flys out at once and gets all over me and where ever i do it at. he also has this problem with his testicals. I've already had to dump three women because they wouldn't do this for me regardless of how much pain the dog was in. someone please help. i think next time i will take him to the vet.

My maltese just had puppies two days ago at the vet's office. She said to make sure puppies kept warm when we got home. Have had heating pad under box on low temp for two days now. (Vet's office is closed for weekend) so I'm wondering how long I need to supply heat? Dpesn't seem safe to leave on 24/7. Thanks!

I want to buy a pure bred dog and I'm unsure of what type to get. If you could give me some suggestions of dogs that are easy to train, loveable, easy going, and that are small to medium in size because he/she will be an inside dog.
