my 13 mo old lab mix tore her paw pad while hiking with me. it is not bleeding, but it is hanging a bit loose. i think it will fall off eventually. i have cleaned it and have a sock on her paw. this seems a bit more extreme than the cuts i have read about online. any advice? i will go to the vet on monday if she is still limping.

Yes they grow back. My lab mix had hers tear off while chasing frisbee's and skidding a lot. They were very red and sore for awhile and she limped, but they grew back fairly quickly. Just keep them clean and you can even put Hydrogen Peroxide on them to keep them from getting infected.

That happened to my dog Daisy about a month ago! I took her to the vet and he told me that the paw pad does grow back but that I needed to keep her paw clean so it wouldn't get infected! He gave me a special spray to put on her paw and he said that if she licks herself on the paw it will still heal soon! The important thing is to keep the paw clean where there is no dirt around your dog! But probably the vet will give you a spray when you go with him/her and that will make it all better trust me! Good Luck!

My husband says that they will grow back. You may want to put rose oil or triple antibiotic ointment on it under the sock. I would just call my vet on Monday morning to see if they thought your lab needs to be seen or if they can tell you how they want you to treat it. that may save you a vet visit if it doesn't need to be taken to the office (be sure your pet's shots are up to date, and watch out for infection)

It should grow back, it may take a couple of weeks to be completely healed. Keep some antibiotic ointment on it to keep it from drying out and cracking. There is probably no need to go to the vet.

They do grow back. We treated like any other wound. Get some antibiotic ointment, a gauze pad, breathable wrap and sports tape. I put ointment on the gauze, held the gauze on the pad, and wrapped the breathable sports wrap around it and use the tape to hold the wrap from unraveling.
