My beta was overfed (over the course of a couple of months) seven or eight beta bites a day. (My bad, I didn't know and he looked bored). I have been putting medicine (pet store recommended it) a drop every other day or so for the last week. It has turned the water blue. He also has a live plant in there. Every now and then I'll put a beta bite in, but he is definetely not interested in it. He's tilting slightly, and then once in a while he'll swim really fast, almost like he is trying to shake this sickness off. I hope he makes it. My question is, how long can he last without eating? It has been almost ten days like this!

Like if someone doesn't know for sure when the dog's last vaccination was, although there's a good chance it may have been within the past year or so, such as with a rescue.

My puppy had distemper and was on doxycycline from ages 9-15 weeks. Her teeth look HORRIBLE. It looks as though someone took a power sander and sanded down the fronts of her front teeth and all the anamel is rotting away. She's only 5 months old but her teeth look worse than my 12 year olds.

Is there any sort of dog dentistry or things I can do at home to help save her teeth? Can the vets put on enamel or things to protect her teeth?

On another forum, some person posted that vaccines are unneccesary and puppies(not dogs, puppies) don't need them and they have natural immunity. They even suggested taking unvaccinated 15 week old puppies to dog parks was a good idea.

Is this anything other than stupidity? Considering how many puppies get parvo or distemper how can someone who knows anything make that argument?

Sure, there is an astronomically low risk the puppy might react to the vaccine, but compare that to the relatively high chance of getting disease.....

I have a 20 gallon tank. I tested my water when my poor pleco died the day after I got him. I have ammonia levels of 8.0. and I my fish have Ich disease. My two remaining tiger barbs have it really bad, but my parrot fish and kissing gourami only have a few white spots. So far i have changed the water, taken out my carbon filter, and am using API super Ich cure to treat the Ich. I'm almost done the treatment but it does not seem to be helping. I'm thinking I should treat the ammonia before I worry anymore about the Ich. Can someone please help. I've alreadly lost one tiger barb and two plecos. I really don't want to loss my other fish, especially the parrot fish.

Sorry it’s so long; I just need help and want to give as much information as I can.
I hate that I have to go through all of this to get a straight answer, don’t see people on “trying to conceive” saying “you know there are too many people in the world, you should get fixed.” But anyhow, to make things clear; We adopted a very young cat, with all intentions of having her fixed only to find out as we were giving her a flea bath the day we got her that she is pregnant. As soon as it is time we will have her spayed. We were just giving a good home to a homeless cat; not trying to make more cute little kitties (can adopt plenty at the pound.)
Yes I know she is pregnant (don’t know how far along,) and after trying to find out last night if the slight bloody discharge she had was a sign of birth or something wrong (and being told she was having her period…lol) I know she is close to ready for birth, and I think that covers everything. Sorry to make a short question long, it’s just hard to take some of the things people say…ouch.
The problem is I think the kitten is going to be stillborn, read this happens in young cats and I can’t see it moving, so will the “queen” still deliver? So far she seems really fine, I am just over worried (will take her ASAP to the vet if something goes wrong.) The kitten is really low, moving towards the birth canal, and it seems like she should be in labor; she just isn’t following any of the “stages of labor” I keep reading. She isn’t doing anything motherly, she is still eating, and worrying her mommy sick (that might have been one.)
Anyone know what is going on? I also read that the “queens” can hold off delivery if they are upset, could my worrying be upsetting her? How will I know if something is wrong if she seems so fine?
Lastly, is it possible the kitten is still alive and just because it is so close to time I don’t notice it moving? Btw, I say kitten because luckily it feels like only one. I just don’t understand how it can be a stillborn when she is so healthy and went though all the progression of motherhood every well considering her age. I mean she does still run-a-muck like a kitten herself but the baby even grew nicely.
Any help for a *pacing* future kitten owner (hopefully) would be so appreciated, you wouldn’t understand.

I hope to check out some events next year , and was wondering what its like from those who have been to events (of any kind).
Whether you showed or were just there to watch.
What did you do while you were there?
Does it usually cost for one to go and watch?
Do you get much time to talk with people who are showing their dogs?
Is it common for somebody to just attend or is it mostly just people there to show?
Anything that one really needs to know before attending an event?

I know that this doesn't have anything to do with dogs but, the dog section is the one that I am most familiar with. I live in Oklahoma and if you haven't heard, we have been hit with a severe ice storm that has caused almost all of the trees in the state to become too heavy and fall onto our powerlines. My entire family along with 400,000 other customers have been out of power since Sunday evening including alot of our cities' water treatment plants and hospitals. Because I beleive in the power of prayer (no matter who you pray to ) and wanted to let everyone know about this devastating situation. So my mandatory question - Has anyone else ever been in a situation similar? I hope not!

Thank you!

Lately my 4 1/2 month old shih tzu has been scratching like crazy. I have been bathing her once a week and think this may be causing her skin to dry so I am trying to wait longer. As far as fleas I am giving her the pill type flea medication so I hope that is not the issue. I check her regularly and haven't found any fleas nor any red patches of skin. She does come everywhere with me even work. This is why I felt the need to bathe her weekly. I think her diet is fine since I've had her she has been eating royal canin puppy food. If I have bathed her too much and need to moisturize her skin what can I use. This is my first experience with a long haired breed and was wondering if part of this is just their nature?? I brush her every night and have had her trimmed twice. Any suggestions???

he's a beautiful 12 year old bichon who was in great health for a 12 year old. she fed him right and he exercised right, so there was nothing wrong with him. She had him since her 17th birthday! She took him for a check up and the vet said that the dog seemed to have some acid reflux and he prescribed Lenzor. Problem with Lenzor when you don't have acid reflux is that it kills your liver. 3 weeks later, the dog's body filled with water and he just collapsed. My friend is not being able to get over and cries all day, understandably. She feels guilty because she gave him the meds. Now she wants to sew the doctor. Is this advisable or should I tell her that it won't bring back the dog and it won't make her feel better... what should she do in this case? does this happen often that vets give the wrong pills and our pets die? How can I help her???

So in an effort to put a bit more informative questions that the typical "is my horse pretty" ones that you se eon here I have decided to randomly ask things that when answered will be either fun tivia knowledge , actual knowledge to store in your memory to later help you or things that you can pass on to others, so what made Bright Zip go blind, how old was he and did it affect him in anyway? I know the answer to this been a Lyons fan for years... so please don't tell me to go look it up on google!!!

We have an 8 week old kitten who was diagnosed as having ear mites when we took her to the vet. My wife is worried that these can transfer over to humans. Is this possible?

I know all about having an aquarium.....I know all about filters and vacs and plants and all that good stuff because I've had about 3 or 4 before, but now I just wanna have all gupppies and platies.. I wanna be able to breed both, and have no problem getting a tank or what ever I need for the fry......But I dont know how many of each will fit in a 10 gallon tank. And since I wanna breed both, how many females per males of each would I have to put in for them to breed? I know all about the 1 inch per gallon thing, but I also heard that it could be 1 fish per gallon as long as they were small.........I also seen some where where it should be 1 male per 2 females too ( so the males wont bully the females).

I was just estimating, but could I fit 5 guppies and maybe 4 platies? or five of each? with 2 males per 3 females? Or 2 male guppies with 3 females and 2 male platies with 2 females?
