We've had my beta fish for about 6 months, and far as I know, she's never seen a male. How did she make eggs?

Betta fish are not live-bearers. The eggs you are seeing in your tank are not fertilized. The females develop eggs on her own internally and males fertilize them after they've been purged from the female. The male would then tend after the eggs until fry hatch. As far as I know, it is rare for a female to be able to purge her eggs on her own, but it's not impossible. Typically, if a female is not purged of her eggs by a male, she would just absorb them into her body and go through the cycle again in a few weeks.

Fish lay eggs and a male has to fertilize them. It doesn't matter whether a male is around or not, they still lay them. Fish don't have sex like a lot of animals and us, humans do. The males fertilize the eggs by shooting sperm on them.

You don't need a male to get fish eggs(they are externally fertilized) and that's where the males come in. It's just like"you don't need a rooster to get hen eggs",unless you want fertilized eggs.

Why not? Don't female humans who are virgins pass an egg once a month?

Fish will still lay eggs sometimes, even if they are not furtile

She was pregnant when you got her, or it's just her body purging like a menstrual cycle.
