its from a calcium deficiency
they aren't getting enough direct sun light
you can get a powder from any pet store ( it a calcium supplement for iguanas) it really works
mix it with their food(sprinkle the powder on the pellets before putting them in the water)
after a few weeks the shells will start to look better
as they keep growing and shedding their shells the under shells will look so much better

I believe it could because of something lacking in the water or diet. I've had several small turtles and kept them long enough and until they were big enough to be set free in a near by pond. I was told to place a penny or two in the water with the turtle and it helps. My turtles developed hard shells and were quite healthy, so I suggest adding a penny to your turtle water, it might take care of the white spots.

It could be a fungal disease (shell rot) or deposits from hard water. Here is an excellent link on shell problems. If you can't figure out what it is, a trip to the reptile vet is in order.

i'D DO THE PENNY TIP AND THEN i'D TEST THE WATER ph. with a kit from the pet store...

If the water is too acidic; fungus can form.

I say it's all in the water Ph.; ask Pet store;

note Wipe shell with Baking soda and water; then rinse; try this daily for a week.

then let us know if the white spot disappers.
