I have a female Rottweiler and she is six months old. She will not stop scratching all over. I know she does not have fleas or ticks. I have tried several diffrent shampoos. Is there anything I can give her to help stop scratching

i have had this experence with a rottweiler. i mixed a little vegetable oil in his dry food every day and the problem cleared up. not to much oil or it could give him loose stool. just enough to coat each piece and not pool in the bottom of the bowl or you could ask your vet

I have a rottie & am a member of a rottie club so know quite a bit about them. Keep checking the skin, rotties are prone to excema, you should see a red spot and it will turn nasty and can take a few hrs to change into infection. Stop using all the shampoos for a start its soap based whether dogs or human and will irritate. As a rule do not wash rotties. Use a couple of drops of lavender oil in water to wipe down if need to. Use hibiscrub for excema twice a day diluted, make sure you keep him really dry not wet this makes it worst. If the sore gets really bad use violet spray. If this doesn't work and he starts to get gunky or smells take him to the vets its gone too far to treat yourself, they'll shave him and clean it up for you, they are also known as hot spot (maybe search web). Not sure what food you feed him but alot of rotties are on the raw diet due to this reason. Also you don't mention if you are supplementing him he should have CLO, glucosamine, and evening primrose oil. Also oily fish (tuna) once a week should help. Rotties are prone to alot of ailments unfortunatley comes with the breed.

It sounds like DRY SKIN, to me. You say you've "tried several different shampoos", but you don't say if they're DOG shampoo or PEOPLE shampoo. People shampoos will dry the skin of the dog, so they itch! If she scratches "all over", she could also have an allergy. You need to take her and have her checked, by the vet, to see if she's broken the skin anywhere. If she has, she could get an infection (sores, more itching, etc), so she needs a steroid shot to stop the itching and possibly meds for infection (IF she has one). It's ALWAYS BEST to have a vet look at an animal, with any kind of "problem", than to ask "unknowns" like us. You take a chance on getting "inaccurate" info.......Good luck......

what food is the dog on???

if it contains - beef, pork, corn, wheat, or soy - that is probably the problem - these are the major allergy causing foods in dogs..
also "meat meal" which can be any dead animal = mystery meat.

has she been checked for lice?? (smaller than fleas)

oatmeal shampoo is best for itchy dogs.. BUT you must dry them thoroughly (meaning with a drier NOT air dry)... do NOT over wash your dog or you will create skin problems.

I give my rottie fish oil capsuls...this helps take care of the dry skin. You can get this from the vet.
