Some fish can be kept in a wide range of pH, like the convict cichlid, usually 6.5- 7.5. My question is, what if your tank is 6.5, and you go to buy a convict at the store and that pH is 7.5, what do you do?

No offense, but I ask all of you craters to consider this: you say your dog loves it, it's a den... A den is the modern equivilent to the small burrow or cave that the wild dog would have dug or selected for shelter and safety. Generally, such a place would have two exits. Now, I assume you have never been imprisoned, but I assure you, those who have say the experience is not pleasant. Crate sellers recommend that the crate be so small as to "not encourage the dog to go in the crate". In the old days, we used kennels, large enough for the dog to wander in. Nowadays, most people I know train their dogs to behave in the house, and for puppies, you puppy proof a room. There is no doubt about it in my mind. Caging a dog is cruel and wrong, no matter who justifies it. Even a hamster is given a large enough space to move about it. Some of you crate your dogs for a whole work day! How is being locked up in a box not much bigger than you for hours become a "safe den"???

I have a 1 year old begle mix with a crusty white looking substance in his ears. He kinda of scratches at them some, but not like dogs who have mites or something. At times, it has kind of a funky odor to it. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I can't take him to the vet until the middle of next week and was just wondering what it could be?

My cat is a 2 year old male and he has been neutered. But he really likes hunting. We got him a collar with a bell on it and the hunting stopped for a while. Hes started catching baby birds now. We tried keeping him inside for a while, but our house is directly in the sun and heats up easily. If we leave even one window open he escapes.

I have heard of de-clawing but I wasn't too sure about that.

My large dog was running into the house and seemed to twist/break her ankle/paw/leg. She sort of whiped out on the on the ground and hasn't been able to put weight on her left leg since.

It seems kind of crooked, and she can't lay it straight. She has been crying in pain but looks pretty comfortable when she lays down on her side.

Taking her to a vet isn't an option for me right now since she weighs probably +150 pounds AND I don't have transportation to get her there.

Any suggestions on a sort of "home remedy" or should I wait it out and see if it gets better for her?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

owners are away and feed and water and change the litter.
How much should I charge? Also is it necessary to be bonded/insured for this business?

Well, i brought a female 2 month-old kitten to my home in September. At first, normally my 3 year-old cat and she didn't get along. But it's December now and they're still not getting along. My older cat just slaps her away when she comes near him and she starts fights with him.My dad thinks that my older cat is getting so much stress because of the kitten because he threw up yesterday.Has this happened to your cats?I'm thinking of giving my kitten away to my parent's friend's daughter who's in college.
But once I give her away will my older cat be happier?
Please help I don't know what to do!

my cat recently died from what we first thought to be gingivitis, then progressed to kidney failure. I've had my cat for 8 years, and she is way more than a cat to me. I come home and find myself calling for her, looking for her, expecting her. it is so empty now. what do I do?

This is a question purely for the discussion of it. I know that a lot of people think that Cesar Millan's whole dominance theory is fantastic. They are just impressed that he can get the dog to settle down at all. He says it is purely a psychological challenge with the dog, that he is not hurting or scaring it, just showing him who's boss...he says he's doing what another dog would do to it. I know that I have seen his psychology center on TV, and he has a LOT of well balanced, happy dogs. (At least, it looks that way)

On the other hand, he does his whole "flip you on your back to make you submissive thing". Do you think he is going to far, or do you think it is fine for him to show the dogs' who is 'boss'? Do you feel that it is unecessary to take the dominance that far?

Basically, any opinions on Cesar's training method and his theory on dog psychology would be great. I just think it would be really interesting to see what people have to say about "The Dog Whisperer".

My female is beyond silly! She's over 50 lbs and still tries to be held. She even climbs onto the top of the couch to lick her family! She is very very affectionate which is nice but is this normal?
Also, she's 9 months old-is she done growing?

Im planning on giving my 50lb. Shepherd/Lab mix a bath tonight in the bathtub. I need some advice on how to do this while making the least possible mess. She likes baths, so she won't struggle or anything.
Thanks
