Are there any websites that sell break away collars for DOGS. I can only find cat collars. I really want a break away collar for my dog.

I let my dog have free range of the house/yard when I am gone because he is so well behaved. I want a breakaway collar because:

What if he gets it caught on something when I am not there? If it is just a regular collar he will strangle himself. With a break away collar he can get away in an emergency.

and I am NOT one of those people who lock their dog up in a crate 6+ hours a day when they are at work. I think it is cruel.

They definitely make them. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Petsmart carries them. You can look on petsmart.com. I think I saw some when I was looking for collars for my dog because they have a big warning that they shouldn't be used with tie-outs (as they would obviously break away).

Edit: Couldn't find any on Petsmart.com, but here's some:

Yes they do make them!

Here is the description :The KeepSafe Break-Away Collar is the only collar that has a patented safety buckle that is designed to protect dogs from collar accidents and can be used securely with a leash. Did you know thousands of dogs are injured or strangled by their collars each year? In a recent survey, 96% of veterinarians reported having seen/heard of a collar-related injury or death within the last year. Any dog wearing a collar can potentially get into trouble with the collar becoming caught. Accidents happen regardless of size/type of dog, type of traditional collar or amount of supervision. The majority of collar accidents occur in the safety of the backyard or even the living room . Small 10"-14", Medium 14"-20", Large 18"-28", X-Large 22"-34"

WHY would you want a breakaway collar for a dog? They do not make them for dogs, unless your dog is small enough to use a cat one.

In a case like that, I would use the thinnest nylon adjustable collar with ID tags. Keep is semi-loose fitting. Then the dog would NOT strangle, it would slip out of it. Or, leave NO collar on the dog and make sure it is microchipped.

The breakaway collars are ALWAYS coming off the cats. The slightest rub against them and they pop off.

Why would you want one? So that if you're walking down the street with him, and he lunges for something, the collar snaps and you have to chase him down?

I don't think they sell breakaway collars for dogs for that very reason. I think your only chance is if he is small enough to use a cat one.

EDIT*

Okay...if it's only for while you're gone, how about you just leave him with no collar on. Problem solved! As long as he does't have any way to possibly escape outside!

I feel that your fears are unfounded as I have never heard of that happening. That only happens when they jump fences! I am quite sure they do not make that kind of collar for dogs.

My indoor dogs don't wear collars, unless we're out walking. Then they have their walking rigs on.

WHY??? IT IS NOT NEEDED. OR IS YOUR DOG ACTUALLY UNSUPERVISED IN SUCH A PLACE THAT HE COULD BECOME TANGLED LIKE A CAT IN A CRAWLSPACE?
