I have a 1 year old begle mix with a crusty white looking substance in his ears. He kinda of scratches at them some, but not like dogs who have mites or something. At times, it has kind of a funky odor to it. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I can't take him to the vet until the middle of next week and was just wondering what it could be?

ear infection is most likely. Beagles have floppy ears and any floppy-eared breed or mix is more prone to them. Your vet will take a sample from the ear and look at it under a microscope. Depending on what it is, you'll get medicine for7-10 days. Make sure you treat for the full length of time or it can come back even stronger. Good luck!

My 6yo Australian cattle dog recently developed "crusty ear tips." Be weary if you google the symptoms because lots of sites associated that with mange, even though my dog wasn't itching. Anyhow, vet saw her today and says she has a very mild case of folliculitis (in humans this would basically be an ingrown hair or pimple). It was so minor that I only saw a bit of crust on the tips of her ears. The vet gave me some special shampoo and Panalog ointment (antibiotic). In your case, I"d just try some triple antibiotic cream and hope for the best. Good Luck!

Sounds like an ear infection. They're pretty common with beagles and basset hounds. You should go to your local vet supply shop and find some medication you can put in his ear immediately, otherwise the smell will get even worse...trust me.

When you take on a pet you are responsible for their vet care.. Immediate vet care if necessary. There is something wrong with your dog now, you should take care of it, before you get charged with abuse and neglect.
