My large dog was running into the house and seemed to twist/break her ankle/paw/leg. She sort of whiped out on the on the ground and hasn't been able to put weight on her left leg since.

It seems kind of crooked, and she can't lay it straight. She has been crying in pain but looks pretty comfortable when she lays down on her side.

Taking her to a vet isn't an option for me right now since she weighs probably +150 pounds AND I don't have transportation to get her there.

Any suggestions on a sort of "home remedy" or should I wait it out and see if it gets better for her?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, you've been told about 20 times by now what you should do, take her to the vet... in the meantime, get her in a crate or small room where her movement is very limited until you can get her for some xrays, she's dislocated it and needs care.

dear friend, if it isnt too much to ask, what the heck are you doing with a dog? (especialy a 150 pound one) if you cant provide for one, then you shouldnt have one.
step back and take a look at the situation. your dog appears to have a broken leg, and you ask people on the internet for a 'home remedy'. what the heck are you thinking?
if you choose the home remedy route, then your dog will be a cripple for the rest of its life. there is no proper way, unless you are a vet, for you to set the bone and let it heal properly at home.
think about this a little bit. if you had a broken leg, what would you do? i am sure you have a friend that would take you to a doctor if you dont own a car. i am also sure that same friend would be willing to help you up of the floor. make the same effort for your dog.
as i said before, if you are not willing to make the expense for your dog, and are not willing to make an effort to help her then you should not have her. animals are not disposable and you cant just go through them like pairs of shoes. you should never think about an animal as 'just a possetion' because they are not. they are your friends and loyal companions. they deserve the same love and attention as a human family member.

hope this helps.

There is no home remedy unless you are a trained medical person. However, for right now I would try to ice the injured area as much as she will allow, off and on, to reduce swelling of area/reduce pain. That is standard for a fresh injury. Do not attempt to move her around or straighten the leg. You can lightly touch around the area to see what you feel. I would not attempt to wrap/tape/splint as you could make much worse.

Now, she should not be in life or death situation and you have time to call and find anyone to help you transport her to a vet. She should be ok until morning if that helps. Now if she just pulled a tendon, sprained then the ice and rest may show real improvement by morning. If there is chance of an actual break in bone you may be able to feel that. She would not be improved by morning. Irregardless, she still must see a vet tomorrow.

Keep her quiet, food/water near by and near your bed in case she has problems during the night. And to move her safer try placing her on a heavy blanket rolled up a bit. Scoot the blanket up under her. Then you can pull her on the blanket, lots easier as she is a big girl. Also can use the blanket to get her into car if don;t have a couple of big guys to help.

Sure - use the SAME home remedy you would use on your own broken leg. Let's see, hope that the bone isn't compressing a major artery - that would lead to atrophy and then eventual necropsy of the tissure which means leg amputation - and yep, you can do that yourself too. See, treat your dog like you would treat yourself. If you would lie around the house and self-nuture your own broken leg, then what can I say. But something tells me that you wouldn't do that.

Something tells me that you would get to the doctor.

Do the same thing for your dog.

You MUST take her to the vet! If it is broken and isn't set properly she could end up loosing that leg! You need to call around and find someone to help you get her to the vet! Not taking her is neglect!

call the vet and ask if they make house calls. Tell them it is an emergency and your dog is in a lot of pain. Explain that you can't get her to the vet. I am sure you could find a vet willing to help you out.

Get the dog to the vets and make a payment plan with your vet. Anything other than that is animal curlity!

This is not something a home remedy can help - she needs to see a professional. If you don't have transportation, call the vet, explain the situation. In some areas, vets will make house calls when necessary.

What kind of home remedy are you looking for? Cause when that bone sets in the wrong position, you are going to end up spending far more in the future. When you do not provide proper vet care for your pet, you are in jeopardy of being charged with abuse and neglect. When you take on a pet, you are responsible for their care, that means no matter what.. you are supposed to take them to the vet and take care of their needs. You are not doing that.
