Hi,
I took my 18 year old cat to the vet to be euthanased. However he died whilst waiting - we were ushered into a room where the vet nurse placed a stethoscope on my cat's chest and said that his heart was beating 'just'. They continued to shave his forearm and when I asked why? (because his respirations had ceased), they said they were trying to find a vein to administer the needle...I'm a nurse..and I stated that his veins would have collapsed by now - but they kept going - checking his flank to find a kidney to administer the injection (couldn't find it) so they put the needle into his forearm and then administered not even 0.5ml.
The injection did not go into a vein as the blue of the serum spread...it was obvious it had gone into the tissues. My eldest son was with me and took Sooty out to the car as we were burying him at home...The surgery charged me $65.00. At the time I was just too upset to query it and just paid...but in hindsight was a bit annoyed that they charged such a high fee when it was obvious that my cat had already died. Technically did they euthanase a dead cat?
Thanks
Deb

Is this a safe method- are these meds ok to use.( not expired ) I usually just get them from our vets office, but thought if they were cheaper online I'd look into it. Any suggestions of any web pages?? I have looked into Pet Meds. There prices seem to match the vets-

My good old dog (15) has been squealing when he tries to sit down or stoop (lower his back) to go through the doggy door. He does have a skinned place on top of a paw, so he probably was chasing something with my other dog, who is heavy and aggressive and just have a sprain or twisted muscle from crashing with her. But I've heard of old dogs having serious hip problems. I just noticed it last night (Friday) and I don't think it's time for the emergency room. He's licking the paw that's cut, so I'm thinking I can wait through the weekend to see if it gets better. I really can't afford to go to the vet unless it's really necessary. He's o.k. when he's relaxed and he can walk o.k. but puts back feet together before sitting. It's just when he gets up or sits down that it hurts him. This has happened before when he got into a scuffle with Sweetie (my rough dog), so I'm thinking its not that hip displasia that dogs get sometimes which require serious attention. What thinkest thou?

It would then flare up and start swimming up and down the tank. Is this ok/healthy for the fish? If not, what should I do.

My cat came in, after being outside, with a swollen bottom lip. (Or perhaps this is the first time I noticed it) It it hasn't reduced in size for a week and actually appears to be more red and inflammed. She is eating and drinking fine though. Any ideas about what this might be?"

the goldfishes in our aquarium have been dying at least 2 per week. Most of them get caught up in the pump and their tails and fins get sucked and they're stuck there. I think the pump is too strong. What can i do to avoid their deaths aside from replacing the pump?

when i woke up this morning and turned on my aquarium light i saw a little mit of movment out of the corner of my eye. it took me a little while to find what it was but once i did, it was a baby fishy. the babies are all black so im assuming they came from my black mollies as they are my only black fish. i would like to try keeping them but i need advice. i have already moved them from my main tank with the other fish to a back up tank. the big thing is what do i feed them. there obviously to small for the blood wormsand frozon breine shrimp i feed the others. will flake food be good or do i need to go get something for them? as babies are there any other needs that they have?
thanks in advance for all your help.

his front teeth. Apart from the obvious I think it may be, is there anything else it might be? He's fine in every other aspect, eating drinking, playing but I'm now worried about this lump. I'm gonna take him on Monday but want some kind of peace of mind please. Thanks

I found 3 abandoned kittens and started bottle feeding them. They are off the bottles now and have been eating a 2nd Stage formula out of a bowl for almost 2 weeks. They are ready for dry & canned kitten food, but I'm worried they still need some 'milk' and buying a new can of formula every week is getting expensive! Does anyone have any suggestions?

i covered the top. he found a way. he killed all of them. i just got my fish replaced. Angel fish and one flowerhorn and five goldfish. i caught him at it. i saved a fish. they're still alive today, but what do i do to make my cat stop it? he keeps finding a way. i shouldn't have trained him so well. I wouldn't want to get rid of him. or my fish either. I thought cats hated water?
