My new pup has a cough and a runny nose so his vet gave him antibiotics. I read that I can give him echinacea. Would that be in tea form or a crushed pill? He looks pretty healthy overall and is still very playful.

We have a new puppy at my house. She is a teacup chihuahua.
We are working on potty training, but it does not seem to be going as well as I think it should.

She's been fat for about a year. Is that healthy? Is she pregnant? Should I put her in another tank? I have no clue really on what to do, so please fill me in here!

I have recently purchased a new five and a half gallon tank for my bedroom. I have cleaned it, filled it with water and started the filter to begin the cycling.

I know I have to watch the ammonia levels and the nitrate levels, but I live out in the rural desert and I'm on well water. We have our water regularly tested and it usually rates below normal water (No chlorine, ammonia, no chemicals, water softeners at all). It's very healthy water and completely chemical free.

Are ammonia and nitrate naturally occuring in the aquarium cycle (If so, where do they come from? I have not added anything else other than water conditioning liquid), and what should I watch for? How long should the cycling take? I'm not going to use it for tropical fish, just small fish like tetras, mollys, dwarf frogs and maybe a goldfish or two (I haven't really decided on the fish I want).

Thanks!

Also -- Are snails benifitial in any way?

Besides a dwarf one? Any other species which dont grow really large and dont require a very big aquarium? I intent to keep it by itself.
Thanks and a happy new year to all!

We have a 17 week old Chihuahua female ,we named GiGi. She is a deerface, all white, except 1 ear is brown and the other ear has little brown freckle spots on it. Do you like the name GiGi or should we change it to something else. I was thinking, Cookie, Dixie, Daisy, Ginger, Gidget, Baby, Bubbles, Scarlett, Shadow, Barbie, or Bashful, because she is very shy. Do you like any of these, or can you suggest some others? Thanks! Happy New Year!

I know that it has something to do with the hooves, but what about them? I am writing a "book", more like "essay" about horses to study on and so far i have everything on feeding, care, vet care, money situations (i am now up to 109 dollars!), and hoof care, cept for shodding...what is it?

Here's my situation...Four years ago our German Shepherd died of old age (17 yrs. old). We finally decided, after alot of discussion, to go to one of the local shelters and try to find a young German Sheperd to raise. We were told that it would cost $95.00 to adopt a large breed dog (puppy or adult). I know the cost covers the shots and neuter/spay, but why so much? This local animal shelter has very little turn-over, and they are always asking for donations to feed all the dogs and cats they are housing. I asked them if it wouldn't be better to lower the adoption fee to be able to get them adopted out and they said that if a person can't afford the adoption fees then they can't afford a dog! I totally disagree with this. There are alot of good people out there that would love to own a dog but can't afford the huge adoption fees. It seems that if more of their pets were adopted, they wouldn't keep having to raise money to feed them. What do you think?

I have a boyfriend that moved in. I noticed that when he argues with me she will urinate in the middle of the night. I'm not sure if this is connected, but I think so. I'm tired of steam cleaning, but am willing to continue to keep her. The boyfriend goes b4 she'll go! Help! What can I do?

I have been interested in getting a cat for a while but I would like to ensure it is safe. I have read on many websites that indoor cats live much longer and are safe but I want to know if the cat will be happy. The cats I saw at the shelter were in tiny cages. My house would give it much more space. Is it cruel to keep them indoors mostly?

I have always thought having a pet snake was so pointless. Think about it. All they do is eat and sleep in the cage you have them in. You know they don't like you. and if you have a snake big enouph they could eat you. i have always wondered this. And i still don't get why people have snakes as pets?
