I have a fish (Barb) and a Red Cap Oranda. The Barb is orange with a big white spot on its sides and is starting to get black fin tips, def new growth but still pretty transparent looking. I brought him home over thxgiving break and I brought home the Oranda yesterday for winter break (not enough room to bring them both home at the same time). To my surprise, the Barb had grown about 1 inch! He was a little baby just a few weeks ago. I got him for free b/c I'm a bio major and fish were used for experiments, and they were all sick in the tank so I rescued the little guy. I'm worried about the tank size he's in with growing that fast. I am either going to get him a bigger tank OR put him with the Oranda and buy a big tank for both of them. BUT I don't know about compatibility! The Oranda I've had for almost a year now and is over 2 inches long (including caudal fin). The Barb is an inch and a half now. I know sometimes size is an issue with compatibility as well as spp. Will this work?

I have been going to the same horse riding school for 3.5 years and always end up helping out on the riding camps, looking after the horses and lil kids. The thing is I would like to help more often-the camps are in the holidays only-and maybe even get a job helping out. How do I approach this and convince the owner of my riding school? I would also like to mainly work with the horses. Thanks and Happy holidays.

I have a 2 gallon fish tank with a small whisper filter. It has one male betta, gravel and 3 fake plants. I have developed a white film on top of the water. This film is almost cottony when I stir the water. What is it and how can I get rid of this?
I had another betta die and the water was the same way. I think Ich killed the other betta.

This tank was cleaned real well and let to run for a week before the new betta came along!

Other than the white film, the tank is good and so is the fish (i hope!)

and hes about 6 months old, well when i was bringing him home i noticed he had really bad gas and then he started to have diarreah. but its like water and the smell is horific. hes acting normal, but his bowel movements arent right. any suggestions? i know he probably ate something before he got here that upset his stomach. but my question is how long should i wait before i take him to the vet? or are there any remedies to help dogs with diarreah? thanks

Our 7month old dog sleeps outside in a kennel at night. It has got very cold now at night and its hard to put him outside to his bed. Especially as the blanket - or towel - or cardboard - or cotton matting - or anything else that we have put down for him to sleep on and now to provide some comfort and warmth for him, he tears to shreds and eats large chunks of - in the early morning before we let hime out. Any ideas what we can do? and why does he insist on eating his bedding? We want him to be warm at night but its proving a challenge!

So here's my situation. I have two outdoor cats. One of them is of perfect weight and the other looks like skin and bones! I've wormed both of them and I always keep a full bowl of dry cat food available for them. I see him eating all the time but he never gains any weight. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Winston is 10 weeks and he is doing fairly well with potty training. He is trained to the Wee-Wee pads as well as going outside.

However, he keeps doing this notorious sniffing...I guess he's trying to pick up a scent and then pops a squat!!! Why is he doing that??

It's driving me crazy!!! When he does pee or mark his territory, I clean it up right away. I have also spread ceyenne pepper and red pepperseeds to discourage this behavior.

Will he stop or grow out of this?
Is this a training Issue?
Should I be doing something Different?
Is there a difference between peeing and marking territory?

My cat has an URI, just went to the vet this morning, she started taking antibiotics but she has trouble breathing through her nose! It's really bad, I have a humidifier and it doesn't help. What can I do to help her until the antibiotics start to work?? She can't eat because her nose is clogged!!

My 6 months old puppy has been on antibiotics twice for a bacterial infection. Every time we finish the antibiotics, the symptoms returns after a couple of days. The first day is worst, this time she had blood in her urine, then it stabilizes some. She is on her third antibiotics treatment now, while the vet checks for possible resistency afainst that type of antibiotics. They also told me to clean her with baby wipers each time she goes potty, to keep bacteria from entering. Is anybody familiar with this? Comments or ideas? Thank you

Everyday I come home and kitchen floor is soaked in water, I have tried different types of water bowls. I have even moved it to different locations, and he still does it. I just can understand why, my female doesnt play with the bowl at all. Maybe its just some kind of game, but hes gonna ruin my house. Any suggestions???

I bought a couple little guppies for my cichlid for the first time and he wont touch them. Hes an african bumble bee cichlid and hes about 7 inches long. I wanted to try him on live fish, he eats worms and flakes and the little cichlid balls. What am I doing wrong???
