I have a 55 gallon freshwater fishtank with 1 angelfish on the bigger side, 7 small tetras and 5 small irridescent sharks. I keep the light on during the day and off at night. It seems as if my irredescent sharks are being killed by the light because when it is on they act dead, but as soon as i turn it off they swim around like crazy. The past few days i have just left the light off completely and the sharks seem to be doing very well, but i know this is bad for my other fish so i'm just wondering why the sharks are resonding to the light like this? Is there a peticular kind of bulb i should be using?

Hi. I went today to pick out a Boston Bull Terrier puppy, and she is sooo cute. She has 2 black eyes and a black dot right in the middle of her forehead. Her front feet from the knees down are white, and her back feet are black. Any suggestions for names? I go to pick her up in early December, so I want to take the time to think of something good to call her.

Ok, so my sister used to have a technique, she found it in a book, on what to give your cat, ie food and vitimins, to make them less likely to make people have allergic reactions to them. She can't find the book and she can't remember exactly what she did. I want to get a cat but also want my family that is allergic to cats to still be able to come over.

WHat she remembers is:
gave them vitimin E everyday (She believes)
gave tune water once a week
thats all she can remember though
Can someone please help thank you!!!

On Halloween, I had to put my 7 year old Bengal cat to sleep. He was a very stressed out cat. Last year, he started attacking us for no reason. He would be fine one minute and the next minute he would scratch and bite and hiss at you. We took him to the vet and he said physically he was very healthy but he was a very nervous cat. He gave us some feliway which worked in the beginning but he still had times where he still flipped out of nowhere. We recently bought a house and he started running out the house and not coming back for hours. I was a nervous reck. We have 4 kids one who is special needs. Everyone kept telling the best thing for him was to put him to sleep because a cat that stressed is not happy. I feel horrible and I just keep seeing his scared little face when I said good-bye to him. I couldn't even kiss him good-bye because even though he was up-to-date with shots he attack and bit my daughter so he spent the last 10 days in animal control. I miss him so much

I have seperated the mare and the filly and it has been about one and half weeks. They seem to be doing ok, but the pastures that I have seperated them into only have cattle on them. I was wondering how long I should keep them seperated to complete the weaning process and afterwards how soon can I place them in the same pasture?

Recently I bought a puggle. I didn't pay thousands of dollars for it. I paid a couple hundred bucks and got one from a very reputable breeder who is "not out to make a quick buck" but just someone who knows they are a mixed breed that has very desireable traits for a house pet.

The dog is working out beautifully. She is playful, energetic, but also enjoys quiet time and being a lap dog. We couldn't have asked for a better dog. Other puggle owners have reported similar experiences.

But all over the internet and here I see people with passionate hatred of puggles and other mutts or mixed breeds. Why? This hatred reminds me of racial hatred. Pretty much the same thing. These people hate the breed simply because of their genetic makeup and not the content of their character or behavior.

I'm just wondering what everyone else has to say about this topic.

no really, im not trying to be perverse. you know how some cats like to be "tapped" real hard on their lower back half, why do you think they like that?

I don't want to harm any animals but at the same time, I need to consider the health and safety of my mini schnauzer. I keep my animals contained but a neighbor dog, came onto our property, over a 6 foot fence which was out of my control. I am concerned about the safety of my dog and would like to know what the name of the shot or any oral medicine would be that I could give to her to end her pregnancy.

I heard this one story about the Irish Wolfhound that touched my heart and I would like to share it:) These dogs were breed to protect people from wolves in Ireland. Very strong and excellent hunters. Long ago, the king of Ireland received an Irish wolfhound as a present. Everyday he would go hunting with his dog. He grew to love this dog with all his heart. Until one day he went hunting by himself. When he returned he seen blood everywhere in his castle. He searched everywhere in the castle to find his family. Sadly, they were no where to be found. Instinctively, he searched his new born child's crib to see if at least the heir of his throne was safe. Not there. Finally he seen his dog's mouth covered in blood. With rage he took the biggest longest sword in the castle and stabbed the dog in the back. The poor dog let out a heartbreaking yelp while it was dying. Just then he heard crying, he followed the sound and found his child under the couch with a dead wolf beside it.

I have a co-worker/new friend who im turtle sitting for. Her turtles are in an unhealthy enviroment (10 gal tank for a 6" and 8" RES)and she doesnt seem to take proper care of them. I dont think she completely understands how to care for them. How do I go about informing her in the proper way to care for her turtles with out coming off as rude or saying she's a bad owner (she's not she really loves them). I myself have a turlte and she seemed shock at the extent we go to give him the best habitat. Hers arent fed vegitation only pellets and have no way of basking. She only has an aquarium lamp no heat lamp. And their is no adequete land for them to even dry on. Some advice on how to give her advice would be great :)

I have a 5 month old yorkie. I noticed a nickel size lump right below her shoulder area. It wasn't there yesterday, so I don't think it's a tumor, there's no way I wouldn't have noticed it. She is eating, sleeping and acting normal. The lump itself seems to be under the skin and isn't scaby or anything like that, doesn't seem to hurt her. If it is just a bite, how long before it goes away? Or, how long should I give it before I start to panic and think it's something else? Like I said, it wasn't there last night, so I really don't think it's a tumor. (I don't think they grow instantly overnight) Any thoughts???
Should I take her to the vet tomorrow if it's still there and the same size?

Would people say that society as a whole is starting to realize that it is not ok to treat animals bad, and they are getting better?

When I first adopted my pup, I took him to the vet to get him checked out. I met a lady there who told me she hoped I didn't get a certain one of the three vets working there, well I did. He suggested Heartguard and I said YES! then the lady afterwards was like how much was your visit and i said $75.00... and that I got heartguard. She told me to call around to other vets, even ask another one working if my baby needed it. There is no standing water where I live in the high desert, and no mosquitos, no fleas. But I visit California sometimes so decided to go ahead with it. Well I missed a month !! Does this matter and can I just pick up where I left off?
We changed vets and love ours, he did not suggest heartguard for my other puppy. what should I do? We are going to northern california for the holidays for family. I am torn...
any suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

I'm learning boatloads of anatomy and kinesiology and standard massage techniques for dogs and cats because I intend on working with animals. I was wondering how many people would use a service like this where I'm headed after I get my license - Portland, OR. You guys have a strong dog community out there?

We are adopting a dog from a shelter. She's about 1 year old and she was brought to the shelter by the police who found her. Therefore, we do not know her name. Since we have to give her a new name, how hard is it to get her used to being called something new? Any ideas on the best way to achieve this? We have another dog (same breed) - will this make it easier for her to learn her new name?

I would appreciate whatever advice you all can give me.
