I have seperated the mare and the filly and it has been about one and half weeks. They seem to be doing ok, but the pastures that I have seperated them into only have cattle on them. I was wondering how long I should keep them seperated to complete the weaning process and afterwards how soon can I place them in the same pasture?

Till your mare stops lactating, (loses her bag) and about a week after that!

as soon as the mares bags have dryed....(.if the filly knows where to find her food now) i would give it a few more days then put them back together.....if the filly does not try to nurse your good to go if she does give it a few more days......hope this helps

it takes a couple of weeks for mom to dry up and she'll loose interest as well as the filly. then there shouldn't be a problem. If your still seeing a lot of suckling you may want to start over. a vet can help mom dry up as well if she needs the help.

You really shouldn't put them back together but if you do it shouldbe atleast 3 months.
