It seems that it would be to hard to digest and possibly hurt them internally. Is it broken up? Why shouldn't it be cooked? How much should be included in a meal for one bird?

I recently adopted a former stray cat from the shelter. He's a hungry boy, and inhales any food I give him. He's also expressed a liking for baked goods in that he chewed through some doughnuts I left on the counter, and won't leave me alone any time I have cereal. So here's my problem:

With the cat I had before him, I was using a wheat-based litter. I liked it: it was low dust and low tracking, had good odor control and could be flushed down the toilet. I'd like to use it with my new cat, but seeing as he likes cereal, and inhales any food I do give him, I'm worried he'll see the litter as food and not as litter. I'm currently using a mixture of the wheat litter and some clay litter, as I knew he was using clay litter at the shelter, and I wanted to ease him into it. We've had no problems thus far; he uses his box faithfully and doesn't seem interested int eating it, but there's a lot of clay litter in there. What do you think?

for the past week my cat has been refusing to go out unless he needs the toilet, his appetite is not the same(as he normally eats anything)and he just seems depressed. is this possible and what could have caused this?

I recently got a former stray cat from the local shelter. He's a good kitty overall, but he inhales his food. He's thin, though not overly so, but it's obvious he was bigger at one time, as he's got loose skin along his spine and under his chin. I give him half a cup of dry food in the morning and the evening, and a small can of wet food every other day or so. And he gets treats almost every day. The vet says he's young; 2 or under. I'm just wondering if he's really that hungary and I should feed him more, or if his quick eating is just a function of having been a stray and that will settle down as he settles in and realizes that he will be getting more food later.

Do you need to put flea and tick meds on dogs and cats year round?

Puffy, my fish here at work, has spent the last 4 hours swimming about on his back at the surface. Before anyone says the obvious he's not dead, he's flapping his little fins about and appears to be having quite a chilled time, even doing cool spins every now and then. My worry is that I am busy being impressed at his tricks whilst I should really be worrying he is trying to commit suicide or something..!

Is this normal behaviour?

A couple days ago, we adopted a (pitbull?) puppy that has had a rather rough week... thrown out of a car onto a freeway in Miami, rescued by a truck driver who had her in the cab for six days, to the home of a cook at the local truck stop for two days, to our house in Missouri with four cats and a grown dog. Of course we showered her with too many treats and her food is new. Anyone surprised she started having diarreha?

I have read many excellent posts on this topic, and one theme seems to be to feed her rice. I don't happen to have any rice in the house because of my own allergies, and was wondering if I could substitute oatmeal, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal, pasta, or grits without making the situation worse?

I'll get her to the vet this week. Due to the nature of the rescue and adoption, we simply weren't ready for a puppy.

I live in one of my parents house's, but not with them as they live a 16 hour drive away.. and they probably visit once every 5 weeks for a week or so.. well while they are not here at the house I live in I tend to get quiet lonely.. they don't particulary want me to get a housemate as they still part live in the house and I respect that as thier wishe's but would like to get a doggie as I absolutley love them soo much just to keep me company, anyway how should I approach them about getting one as we sort of had a brief conversation about it about 3 months ago and they sort of blew the idea off.. We have had two family dogs in the past and have had to put them down due to illness's and my mum seems to think that she never want's to go through that pain again.. but I miss having a little mate around?? any suggestions??

Since the bird will repeat itself many times a day, what do you think of the following popular phrases? "Stay the course, Vegas, baby, terrorists, cut and run, I did not have sex, wmd, nucular" ? Other suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

I have a pekingese thats a little over a year and a half. The last month or so he has taken to trying to suckle/ nurse on my nightgown & blanket. I stop him. He only does this to MY stuff, not my husband or daughters or even his own toys. He knows I am Alpha in the house and has to be near me at all times and has to touch me when we sleep at night. Mostly he lays on/near my feet but the past few days he has not been feeling well (allergies)and has taken to laying by head, trying to share my pillow. I have had large breed dogs all my life and have worked with training personal protection and obediance. Little dogs are kind of new to me and this behavior, while cute, is baffling. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

She was always the more healthier eater out of my two dragons but in the last week she has dropped down to only eating 1 cricket a day if that. It is getting cold where I live so I was wondering if she could be going into some sort of hybernation. My male is still eating his normal portions so I am probably wrong is saying that. Also I thought maybe she is getting ready to mate??? Honestly I really don't know so please help!

So my cat's not the brightest animal in the world, but there have been times I've noticed he doesn't always land on his feet when falling..... last night when we were having tea, he jumped up on the table. I shooed him off, but he landed on his side. Shouldn't he have landed on his feet? Could there be something wrong with him?

My fiance and I just got a new puppy, Rott/Chow Mix, and we have had it for two days. Last night it just would not sleep in his crate. The first night he whined for about 15 minutes and then slept through the night, but last night he whined for 2 hours (11:30-1:30) until I went down and brought him into our bed, then he slept all night.

He is not alone, we have two other dogs as well. Infact Lorelei, our black lab, sleeps in a crate right next to Mack (the new pup), so they are close together. And Narah the oldest has free run of the house. We've raised both Lorelei and Narah from 6wk pups, so we did the right thing from the start, but this pup is almost 4 mths.

My thought is the owner that we got them from said that Mack was her baby and would take showers with her etc. I think she might have spoiled him too much in the last 3 months, and now we have a severe case of seperation anxiety (HE HATES BEING WITHOUT US).

Any ideas? I NEED SLEEP!
