I'm moving from southern California to Las Vegas and I have freshwater fish. Oscars and a community tank . I've heard that water softeners are ok to use if you use magnesium instead of salt and replace the removed minerals and adjust the ph back to neutral. Is that true, or will the fish be better off with straight untreated water from the tap?

How is this possible? It is an indoor cat. What is going on? I feel sick to my stomach.

Female Beagle, 2 yrs. 4th heat. Second heat we've allowed mating. The first heat that we allowed (her third heat) mating, resulted in "false" pregnancy.

Male Beagle, 4 yrs. Never sired before. Has short legs, hence, mounting issues.

I bought my Chocolate Lab at the age of 10 months in May 2006. He's now 1yr and 2 months old. I never had any problems with him until recently. Whenever he does something bad, I give him the traditional tap on the head. Nothing mean or violent just a good tap, with a firm 'NO', to let him know that its wrong. It's always been ok until for about a week or two he's started growling at me when I tap him and even tried to take a nip at me. Again nothing too agressive, just to tell me basically to back off. People tell me that it's because he sees himself as the master of the household but I don't understand how that can be seeing how I haven't changed any habits with him since I got him and never had this problem before. He's not yet fixed and I'm wondering if he may just be becoming territorial. Has this happened to anyone else and their dog? What can I do about this? Will getting him operated on fix the problem? I love him to pieces and don't want to get rid of him.

Sensible answers only, please! I don't want to harm them, I just want to keep them out of the house and away from my own cats' food.

I am a very new spotted python owner and need some advice. Im using a 75watt moonglobe during the day which is on most of the time except for when the thermostat turns it off, i wanted to know if it is nessesary to have it on all night? my Spotty python tends to stay in his hole at the cool end of the tank all day and only comes out after dark and basks for a short period and slithers around a while before returning to his hollow, is this normal behaviour and what should i do with the heating?
I also wanted to know if there was anything i can do to stop him from being so snappy as he is hard to handle when he is aggresive which is most of the time. PLEASE HELP.

I am thinking cute and fuzzy, but it's a lizard tank. I don't mind reptiles, but I want something that won't bite me constantly. In other words, what can I put in the tank?

I'm a single grad-student with a medium size apartment. I have time to groom once a week and exercise requirements are not a problem since I'm a runner. The most important factor being that I have a lot of friends coming through my apartment so it would have to be a dog that got along well with strange people without jumping all over them.
Note: I'm not really into toy breeds.
