There is no such thing as a free puppy!!!
Puppies need to be examined, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, treated for fleas, and microchipped. If you do all of these things on your own, you will find that this can be very expensive. The very BEST deal out there (really) is to adopt or rescue a dog from either your local SPCA or a rescue group or no-kill animal shelter in your area. Even though these places may charge an "adoption fee" of $150ish or more .... you are getting more than your money's worth because your puppy will have its shots, be fixed and chipped, too.
www.petfinder.com is a wonderful resource ... input your zip code and the type of dog you are looking for (you can search by size, gender, breed, etc.) and see what is available.
Keep in mind that puppies, while gosh-darned cute, poop and pee all over the place, and tend to chew things up. Please consider getting an adult dog who is "ready to go" .... adult doggies need homes, too .... and someone else had all the work of training the little pooch!
Woof woof woof.

I've had wonderful luck going to my local dog pound (animal shelter) and saving puppies. You help out lost or abandoned puppies and end up with a friend for life. Your cost will be only a 'fixing' fee and the cost of a trip to the vet which you would have to pay anyway after buying a puppy from a dealer. Good Luck

The best place to find a FREE pet is your local newspaper under Pets in the classifieds.Next call your local pet control officer which is usually located with the police station or they have a small office just outside of town. The human society and shelters charge for adoption. Here in Texas it costs $60.00. First though, I would ask myself if I could afford to have a pet. It cost money to give them good dog food not that cheap stuff full of ash that's harmful to your pet, then there's shots, and if the animals gets sick -the vet bill can be expensive. If you get a female, you will need to have her spayed so she won't have babies all the time. It can get expensive...think about it real good and oh, if your family goes on vacation, you will have to pay someone to watch your pet.... good luck

Most humane societies will let you bring your family in to meet the new puppy. Remember tho that this takes time... so a few minutes with a puppy might change when you bring him home! Most dog's personalities change a bit as they grow used to the family and get more territorial in their new surroundings. Check out the website below.

Go to your local humane society or animal shelter and adopt one that needs a home. You'll probably have to pay a fee, but you should also be able to ask them about the puppy's temperament.

The pound, humane society, animal shelter, or freebie ads in your local paper. We adopted one of our pups, a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix at the local animal shelter. She is wonderful. Our other Jack Russell we rescued out of the paper, she is wonderful as well. They both lover our kids! Take your kids to pick them out. That is what we did. If they don't like kids, you will be able to tell at the shelter.

If you are not concerned about a purebred, check the newspapers and/or the grocery store bulletin boards. Usually there are people who have mixed-breed dogs (what we used to call Mutts) that they want to give free to a good home.
