How is this possible? It is an indoor cat. What is going on? I feel sick to my stomach.

Almost certain that's a furball.
Put some vaseline on the back of your cats front paws and he will lick it off to clean himself. This will aid the passage of fur through the digestive tract and out the other end into his poop tray.
Monkey paw indeed . .great imagination you have :- )

It's probably more like a partially digest rodent, one that snuck in and your cat made a meal of. Or possibly some garbage that the cat got into. It'd probably help to take a closer look at the thing, as disgusting as it may be - more likely to solve the mystery that way.

Whatever it is, it is obviously undigestable to your cat - hence, it vomited it up. Cats will often eat things that they can't digest - and then throw it back up. If you aren't willing to really look at it and determine what it is - then throw it away. However, if you cat continues to vomit, stops eating and begins losing weight, or any blood appears in the vomit - take your cat to the vet as there is a more serious problem.

Do you have a monkey with one hand running around your place? If you are that worried put the "hand" in a bag and bring it to the vet with your cat.

Those pesky monkeys get everywhere and they specially like indoor cats.

What sort of noise did the cat make?

Quick....go into your little brother's bedroom and see if he is missing anything! If his hand is gone, take him and the puked up hand to the hospital immediately. Maybe the docs can sew it back on.

When you get back home, have a long talk with that naughty kitty about respecting the rights of others.

Lol, I know how you feel. My cat threw up a rabbit's foot with a very long tube of a furball.

Looks like its a furball he has spewed up. Some cats chew grass as well then bring it back up.
