I am restoring a condo and would like to remove the old 90's look spackled wall paint. It has the little chunks all over the wall with paint on top of it. Should I sand this down, or use a paint remover.

So far, the only problem I've noticed is that the glass part of my computer monitor is slightly electric. Not enough to hurt, but it clearly tickles. Any cheap suggestions would be nice, especially as I'm sure the landlord doesn't want to rewire the whole house.

I just got back from a lovely week of vacation and discovered that someone attempted to break into my apartment. I live on the ground floor and the thief tried to get in from my patio door. I noticed the screen part was slid back and the door was unlocked. the thing that saved me was a security bar I put that blocks the door from being opened. But I am seriously creeped out. It was kind of my fault because I only left the hall light and the TV on, figuring my petsitter would leave a light on at night. (I figured wrong.) It's just scary the idea that someone got so close to getting in my apartment. It's also scary because it was most likely someone in my complex since my apt in the midde of a big secluded complex. What can I do to make myself feel more secure?

My husband fitted a new light fitting in our lounge. He says it was quite straightforward, although fiddly. It looked great once we put all the light bulbs in, but now it won't switch off unless we turn the fuse off!

The light switch we have is a dimmer, and worked perfectly for the old light fitting - any ideas?

It's been cold here but I don't think it's a frozen pipe. It also gurgles in the toilet in the same bathroom. The machine is about fifteen feet from laundry room to bathroom. It has never happened when I shower or use the dishwasher. HELP. It's a septic system if that helps.

It does it at full run or half choke. Sears doesn't think there is a problem since it never does it in the warm shop they work in. seems like its flooding out.

I was cutting out a square from a meshed net
After cutting it, I realized that there are pointy jagged metal pieces sticking out now.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to cover the pointy jagged pieces with?
I tried to put fire on it hoping it would melt, but that wasnt that successful.
I also tried cutting off the pointy parts but that doesn't work as well.

Any suggestions is very much appreciated!

Thx 8)

I have a flourescsent light fixture in the kitchen which I do not like. The fixture uses two U-shaped flourescent tubes and is a pain in the neck (literally) to change the tubes. I'm thinking of changing the fixture into a ceiling light that uses compact flourescent bulbs instead. Because the fixture uses the U-shaped tubes, would replacing the fixture be any more difficult than if I was to replace a light fixture that didn't use a fluorescent light fixture? Is there anything special I'd have to do? thx

I have an older house and they thermostat is one of those round ones about 3 inches in diameter. I've heard that u an keep your house as low as 50 degrees without damaging pipes. So I'd like to keep it that low. The problem is that if i turn my thermostat as far down as it will go it only goes to 56 degrees. the markings go down to 50 so Im wondering is there a way to somehow adjust this. Maybe I should install a new thermostat. because it seems to me I should have the option to go down as low as 50 degrees. Right now I can go no lower that 56. How low does everyone else's thermostat go if they tried to set it to its lowest?

I bought a high efficiency washer in the house I recently purchased, which was built in 1998. 3 months after I bought the washer, strong sewer gas smell coming from washing machine drain pipe. Things to note: I have city sewer, I don't have a basement, washer is on first floor so I don't have a floor drain, I use the washer once a week, and I don't know for sure if I have a trap on the drain pipe because it is behind the wall. After each wash, I pour water down the drain pipe. That has helped the sewer gas smell but it is still there. It is worse at night and the day after I use the washing machine, the smell comes back. The smell is now steadily worsening and getting stronger. I had a plumber over to my house and all he did was pull the drain hose further out of the drain pipe. Otherwise, he was clueless as to how to fix the sewer gas smell. Can anyone knowledgeable on this subject help me?
