when you go to buy the remote, take one you already have with you. this will help you to get the correct model although it's not a guarantee. i was in a sears yesterday and had to jump in on a conversation because the salesman was trying to sell a customer the wrong remote...grrr.
to program your remote, 1st get a ladder and go up to the motor case hanging from the ceiling. find the antenna wire (it's a wire about 6 inches long) . on the circuit board the wire is attached to, you will either see a set of dip switches or a square colored button about 1/4" by 1/4". if you see dip switches, set the switches in your remote to match them and you are done. if you see the colored button, press and release that button, then press and hold your remote button. after a few seconds, the remote will program itself. usually the opener will start running when it's done.
