Sounds like you have an obstruction in the main drain line. The washer is putting out more water than can flow down the pipe. Have the sewer line "snaked" by a plumber or rent one from a hardware store. If this doesn't do it, there is a possibility the vent pipe is too small, but that's a million to one shot. Hope this helps.

If you have a septic tank it may be full, take the lid off the tank and make sure the pipe that goes into it is above the water level. If on a public sewer, this does not apply. Your sewer line may be plugged on the branch that serves the toilet and washing machine. I'm guessing they are fairly close together. In my opinion your best bet would be to pull the toilet and run a snake down the toilet drain. If you are unable to do this on your own I suggest calling a sewer cleaning service.
On a sunday this will probably cost $200 - $500. A chemical drain cleaner is an option however, I think your clog is more serious than a drain cleaner can take care of. I would snake it.

Use a drain cleaner( redhot is the best) unless your drain is plastic.
Your system is almost plugged. Pour it down the washer drain wait about 10 15 minutes whatever the directions say then , run a rinse cyclye or something. If that dont do it you may have tree roots plugging it up. They can be taken out by a roto rooter type without digging stuff up.

Call a plumber. You have a clog in your main drain somewhere.
There's a chemical called Liquid Fire. Pure Sufuric Acid.
It will eat through any clog. Use as a last resort. And DO NOT
MIX DRAIN OPENERS TOGETHER!!!!!!
Better yet, call a plumber.

What has your toilet got to do with your washing your clothes? Hope you are not washing your clothes in your toilet; that would be mighty unhealthy.
