I have squeaking hinges and also a 5 month old baby. Most of the time when they are asleep as I open the door/cabinet the annoying squeaking sound wakes them up. So i want to know if there is something i can use to stop the squeaking sound other than WD-40 because of the smell. thanks for your help

You can get any light machine oil at the hardware store. This can be applied directly so you have no smell from propellants. Hope this helps.

Take a Kleenex and some 3-in-1 oil. Just put a drop on the hinges and open the door back and forth. Be ready to catch a drop of oil if you put too much or if it works through the hinge.

Ask for 3 in 1 oil from your local hardware store. it has very little odor and it comes with a small tipped applicator to drip onto the hinge. then open and close the door a few times to allow the oil to seep in. that should do the trick.

You can any type of oil... in a pinch, you could even use cooking oil.

However, I must tell you... I had the same problem with my baby. We used the WD-40. The smell didn't linger long AT ALL... and it worked out great.

Good luck!

Put a few drops of dish detergent on the top of the hinge. Soap is a great lubricant.

My Dad used to just take plain ol' Vaseline and rub it on door hinges, windows that wouldn't slide smoothly, anything like that. No smell and goes only right where you put it, becasue it does not spray. Completely non toxic to babies and animals and works like a charm. Cheap, too.
