My room is the smallest in the house, and it gets hot in the winter because the heat is turned up to properly heat the bigger rooms in the house.

I tried opening the window, but it's still hot.

The heat comes from a pipe that sticking out of the floor.

Is there anything that I can cover the pipe with to keep the room cooler?

The bathroom lights flicker when I turn them on and also when I am using the hair dryer. There is also a significant decrease in wattage with my hair dryer when this is happening.
Today is the first day I've noticed that the electrical plug-in on the wall is warm to the touch and the wall plate itself is crooked!
I want to be better prepared when I pass the complaint onto my landlord as to what it could possibly be.
Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!

anything in particular to worry about? besides killing myself.

I bought the plug w/ the 3 loose wires sticking out as well as the new hot water line and elbow to replace the current copper line. the middle one looks like the green (ground) but i can't tell which one is the black or white one, they all have metal tips. Also, do i have to have the little plastic tops to twist the wires together? or electrical tape sufficient?

On a Tuesday morning I found a stain on a bedroom ceiling, indicating there was a leak in my roof somewhere. The weather forecast for Wed said torrential rains were coming so I went to the first contractor I found. The worker walked around on the side of the roof where the leak was found, hammered a few nails, sealed down some shingles, caulked a few areas and left with $450 of my money. Did I get ripped off, or because it was short notice and in light of the impending bad weather, was this cost justified in any way? (The contractor told me to mix equal parts water and bleach in a spray bottle, spray this on the ceiling stain and when the stained section matches the rest of the ceiling, to stop. At that point, I'm to keep an eye on that spot to be sure the stain doesn't reappear.) So, what do you think - I'm a widow and don't have all the knowledge I should, but I sure hate to get "taken". At this point, it'll just be a lesson learned, but at least I'll know better next time!

About once every 7-8 times I use my microwave oven, I get this awful, very loud electrical buzzing and popping sound. It's so loud that it's very startling. Sounds like what I imagine someone getting electrocuted would sound like... I immediately shut the power off, then restart it, and it usually goes away until the next time, which is, again, typically 7 or 8 uses later... What gives?

I don't ever put anything metal in my microwave, so that's not it, in case that's what you were thinking...

I can't seem to get the scunge that builds up on my straightening iron( build up from hairspray, mousse etc) off. I've tried scraping with a sharp knife, but that seems to scratch the metal. Any safe ideas?

and I was wondering if anyone knows why I keep getting air in the line? It will do this all day, and sometimes it will come on a few times without a hitch. Could I have water in the fuel or a leak somewhere? It runs on fuel oil, and its about 3 years old.

I have 3 small grandkids that visit frequently, and an australian shepherd that stays inside. I beleive the majority of the scratches are from my Australian Shepherd. The scratches are not deep, but they are visible. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I need to do some work on my 4 underground pool pipes that connect my pool to the equipment. If I lower the water level in the pool so it is lower than the level of the 4 underground 2" PVC pipes, do I eliminate any water problems at the site where I am making my cuts? I am worried about not being able to control the water due to the pressure created by the pool. Should I also put a rubber mat over the main drain in the bottom of the pool?

The garage door opener is a craftsman 3/4 chain drive. The wall remote works but the keyless entry panel and the two remotes do not work. They did work when I first installed the garage door. This door is brand new. What could be the problem?

I installed cable in my room, and it was fine and all until it started screwing up. When I went to check on the cable hook up the coax cable head broke off. I also noticed that when I hold the coax cable in the channel comes in really good but the second I let go it go fuzzy again. I tried using electric tape to hold it in but it doesn't work. what should I do?

Right now I just pry it back into the track and whack it with a rubber mallett. Which usually lasts a few days then I have to do it again.

It's rainy season! I need gutters, badly along the edges of the roof to keep these big huge droplets of water from pounding on us when we go in and out. Can a young couple do the job in a day with not too much hassle, or leave it to the pros? The house is not huge either.

This is a 3 or 4 year old Whirlpool water heater in a rental house. All the other gas appliances work. There is gas going to the regulator but the pilot light will not ignite. I'm pretty sure there is a spark with the ignitor. I've disconnected the 2 pipes going to and from the regulator. It looked like there was a little bit of a clay substance in the supply pipe where it terminates in the regulator. What could be wrong? Could the pipe for the pilot light be clogged or could the thermocouple be bad?
