About once every 7-8 times I use my microwave oven, I get this awful, very loud electrical buzzing and popping sound. It's so loud that it's very startling. Sounds like what I imagine someone getting electrocuted would sound like... I immediately shut the power off, then restart it, and it usually goes away until the next time, which is, again, typically 7 or 8 uses later... What gives?

I don't ever put anything metal in my microwave, so that's not it, in case that's what you were thinking...

It never stops working when it makes the noise. But it's such a horrible sound, that I leap to it and turn it off, in case something catches fire.

No, the noise occurs whether the food item is frozen or thawed.

Sounds like maybe the waveguide cover needs to be replaced. Certain foods cause a reaction with the waveguide, and sometimes it sparks, and you might not be seeing the sparks, btu hearing the effects. Go to http://www3.sears.com/ and look up your model number and see if its worth replacing. Good luck.

I don't think it is worth salvaging. Unless you've got a real fancy one with all the probes and browning capability - I'd pitch it and get another.

I used to repair these when they were expensive. But I won't even fix my own anymore. My last one was 31 years old. Got fed up fixing it. New one was $68 and is just perfect.

most of the reasons a microwave dies is a blown fuse, there are only three or four, they can be easily changed for a buck or two by yourself, so dont throw it away. You may have a broken wire though.

My advice is if it worth saving, take it to your neighborhood appliance repair shop and get him to give it a look over and cleaning. It was all it needed when my old one acted like that. It worked a few more years then burnt out. House dust shorts it out. Cheers!

Theres prob a lose wire... or a cut wire... Either way... I think that when it comes to something like that its time to get a new Microwave.. stop using it . one of these times something dangerous could happen.
