I have started gardening but have noticed at night on my galladrias (sp) that the bees are "sleeping" there at night. Even more strange, when it rains, they have been hanging on the underside of the flowers. I always thought bees go back to their hives...yet these don't seem to.

Wondering if I have odd bees or just really good flowers.

I beleive it is some type of fungus. I tried grabbing one and the stem was very limp. The black tar looking stuff was dripping out of the top and onto my grass. It sticks to and tracks everywere. These stems are about 1 to 2 inches long and it drops black stuff out of the top. It was only visible in the morning, by afternoon you cant see the stems. It is growing in my new lawn. (Kentucky blue grass), i did put some composted mulch down, and mixed it in with my soil before putting down the sod.

I started these irises from seed that I traded for. The person that I traded with called them Iris setosa, but I am certain that that is NOT what they are. This iris is hardy to at least Zone 3, it is about 18" tall, and flowers in early to mid spring (June) and it sets seed easily and is fairly easy to start from seed. Here are some pictures

I am having issues with my grass. in some spots it's growing nice and thick and other spots it's yellow and green. What can I do? Also, i have weeds in my yard that are just spreading into a larger area. Last question what length should I cut my grass at? short or long.
Thanks,

I have a massive cactus that's looking like it's going to be a whopper... and we don't really have the floor space to hold it in our house. If I planted it outside, would it survive the cold? We're in south central Manchester and it's pretty sheltered here...

Some of my privet hedging is a bit sparse around the bottom, which leaves huge unsightly gaps. Is there any way of encouraging it to sprout some new shoots, e.g. making nicks in the main stalk?

I am having an issue with a tree tree in my backyard. The tree is very nice and rather large, and I believe there is some sort of insect issue with the tree. There are nests that are taking over limbs of the tree with a web like form around the leaves and it is causing the leaves and even the branch to die. I have spotted what I believe are caterpillars around the tree, but I am unsure. Also, a lot of the leaves are also becoming very spotty and holey.

I am unsure of the type of tree but it is at least 40 years old and I can send pictures of the tree and the webs and insects I have seen.

I found it growing in my backyard one day (where I have lived for over 20 years)! No one planted this either, so I wonder how it got there? I live in Northern Illinois.

My rainbarrels only hold 45 gallons and they are scattered around the house where downspouts come down, not necessarily where I want to use the water. Am interested in maybe an underground storage tank that could be connected to a pump and moved like a sprinkler to where I want the water.

About 2 weeks ago my cucumber plants started dying. The vines are good and the cucumbers seem fine. The leaves are golden brown and filled with holes, I see no bugs. I use soaker hoses and planters paper. All other plants in the garden are doing great. Tomatoes, peppers, beans. I have a photo but I see that I can't use that here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
