I go with the glass bowl over it. That way you can see it is there and leave it for some one else to dispose of. I don't like to kill them. There is a saying, "If you wish to live and thrive let a spider go alive". From a fellow spider hater.

Killing a BIG Spider can be dangerous!
They JUMP and Sting incredibly FAST!
Try Grabbing a Waste Paper Basket and turning it upside down OVER the Spider, or something to COVER it Completely FIRST! Then Take a piece of cardboard and slide it under the Waste Paper Basket, and There Ya Go! You've Trapped a Spider...
THEN you can PICK UP the Cardboard, with the spider Inside of the Waste Basket, and Carry it outside Safely, AWAY from your House, and Put it down...Then kick over the Waste Basket, and Run, Baby Run!
(Much Better than Killing!)

Who are you poisoning, Victoria, you or the spider? You're going to get some really nasty spider karma. Me, I catch 'em and put them outside. My garden is full of spiders. Last week my 3-year old grandson dumped an old bucket of outside toys on the ground. Only 1 of the 12 or so spiders that fled the scene got squished. The boy understands that at Grandma's house you don't squish the spiders, and by age 4 he'll understand why.

Get the vacuum out and suck it up.

Leave the vacuum running for a while to make sure all is in there and dead.
Do that then vacuum the area in which the spider has been to make sure there are no babies left. Sounds like a big Wolf spider.

A) A stomp will kill the babies too
B) Bug spray
C) Feed it beets

Note: I can't SWEAR that beets will kill a spider, but they almost killed me in my youth; so, it's worth a shot!

Some are really fast - if you are wearing shoes, you may have to be brave and step on it - after doing it a few times, you may begin to enjoy stepping on spiders.

I don't kill spiders.. I trap them and let them out outside.

BUT.. if you have your heart set on killing it, use a shoe.. or something that will kill it fast, so it doesn't suffer.

(sorry, I'm a creature lover.)

I'd use a piece of cardboard to put it into a jar, and take it outdoors. Mom and babies will do you a lot more good outdoors alive than indoors dead :-)

Ummm ---- spiders are GOOD for the garden and people, they eat bugs.

Don't kill it, leave it and its babies to protect your plants from bugs.

Trap it in a glass or jar then slide card under the opening, and flush it down the toilet
