I am planting a garden in a hot dry area in central florida. I would perfer that the plants be flowering and if at all possible attract butterflys (though not a requiremnt). I also need vines to grow up a chain link fence (if the plant floweres awsome if not its ok) and a shade type tree that wont get to big. These plants need to be as strong and resistant to drought and heat as possible thank you for Links!!!

It doesn't appear that the stalks are eaten, just nibbled in two. There are what appears to be teeth marks higher up on the stalk. I have searched online with no answers, someone at a nursery said MAYBE a cutworm did it, but I can't find anywhere that says they eat cannas.

They should have been cut back three months ago, which I failed to do. They are overgrown and leaning, though they are staked. I'm afraid if I cut them back now that all the energy will go into the roots and the graft will die, which happened to another one last year. They are iceberg rose trees.

What's the best kind of fence and where can I get it? I want a fence that will
1)keep my cats in my yard and other people's animals out
2) provide privacy
3) allow some air flow, like vertical blinds

If anyone knows of a product that fits this description, I'll be very grateful - construction's not my strong suit!

I've been working in my garden (new home owner!!!) and planting some perennials. The tag on my cone flowers states to deadhead the flowers after blooming. I'm not sure what that means or how important it is. Any help would be appreciated!

Not knowing that the tree had such shallow roots, I dug a trench around the tree about 4" deep to plant hostas. The outside diameter of the trench has a 3' radius with the tree at the center. The tree has a 3" trunk and is about 15' tall. When I dug the trench, I cut six 3/4" roots that had a length of more than 3'. What can I do to help this tree recover?

I had some old organic garlic cloves in my fridge that were getting sprouts on them. I planted them in my vegetable garden. Can I expect to harvest anything? How should I care for the garlic plants, and how do I know when they are ready to be pulled out? I did the same with some shallots.

This is for a "highend" new backyard (no existing landscaping) in a "highend" neighborhood. I am told there are two ways to do the flagstone:
* the same way as pavers, with sand layer underneath, the pavers set, filled in and swept with sand, and watering it down when done? or,
* with a concrete layer first, then glue the flagstone with mortar and filled in with ???

**sealed or not sealed with something?

*** should it be attached or not attached to the slab foundation?

**** How far up the foundation (or down from stucco) should the level patio top be?

***** Can it be DIY? Or I need above info to find out what method the contractor should use (one told me uses sand method)

The yard is large, so there may be one or two patio areas, a back and a side. The back patio may be 20ft x 30ft or larger.

Also, the area is east bay california (some seismic activity). The soil is not soil, it's like clay when wet.
