I use the cheap (from the Dollar Store) chili powder and also cayanne pepper. If you can find enough, pinecones also work well as the cats don't like to "squat" on them. I have also used plastic picnic forks stuck in the dirt with tines upward to prevent a comfortable place to do their business.

I had this same problem! I got a contech scarecrow, and it worked perfectly! My neighbor has close to 40 cats! I was at wits end, until I bought this. I actually found mine on ebay for a lot less than a new one. Check it out on contechs website, they even have videos of it working.

I bought their catstop first... it didn't work. I looked out the window one day, and there was a cat actually batting at it.

Good luck, I know it's frustrating!

For an aesthetic solution, get landscaping rocks (at least 1" in size, and if it has sharper edges like granite chips, all the better) and cover your beds in them. They are decorative, let water through, help reduce weeds, and the cats generally don't like digging at them.

Good luck!

I had the same problem at my old house. I put moth balls, or moth crystals. I know they don't smell real great but it works very well, and it keeps other rodents out too. Good luck.
