I'm trying to germinate an avacodo fro seed and some websites recommend that I use charcoal in the water at the early stages to "keep the water sweet". Is there a special type of gardening charcoal and where can I purchase it?

I have recently purchased two house plants ;English Ivy and Rhoeo plant ( Moses in the boat)) in addition to that I have two other plants a spathphyllum peace lily, and a tropical foilage plant and i was wondering is it dangerous to have these plants in my house? I know that some of them are posionous if eaten i don't plan on eating them, but are they still dangerous to have around ? I also have a little toddler around. I've been having a little abdomen and head pain can these plants be the problem?

We're looking to cut down a few small (3-6" diameter) trees.

Brand recommendation? Anyone have experience with the cordless chainsaws on the market?

I'm not looking for a gas chainsaw and I know what the best brands are so, please, lets stick to the question in hand. Thanks!

My mom always adds crushed aspirin to the rose water when she trims them and replaces the water. What does that do in biological or chemical terms?

it has large fist sized pink blossoms on bare branches. They grow pretty tall, above house height sometimes. They look like big darker pink flowers on completely bare branches with no leaves. The blossoms almost reminds me of the tulip shape.. rounded in

We are thinking about buying a home that has two types of trees in the front yard. One is a taller, green tree. The other is a shorter, purple tree. Please see photo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/SG1977/yardtrees.jpg

The taller trees have brown spiked balls on their branches. If you know what these are, can you tell me anything about these or the purple tree (ie. do they bloom or change colors with the seasons, is there any special maintenance, etc). Thank you...

My backyard is all dirt.. very, very hard dirt. I would like to grow grass and will be doing it myself to save money. How do I break up that hard dirt? Is there a tool or machine? After that is done (the hard part) do I just lay seed and manure on top? Then water? Could I possibly find someone that will just break up the dirt and prepare it for me so I can plant... how much do you think that would cost? I am in southern CA.
