I don't know how closely you examined your infested lilies, but perhaps the beetles were lady bugs eating aphids from your plants, and the aphids turned them to pulp. Aphids are lilies worst enemy. As for an organic method to kill insects, you can try the old stand by, dish detergent and water,or check out what is on the shelf for organic chemicals in your local home & garden center. There is a beetle that looks like a lady bug, it has 11 spots on its body and the lady bug has13, the plant eating orange beetle with 11 spots is a Mexican beetle, so it is touchy when beetles are involved. The aphids are more than likely the problem though and the ladybugs were eating the aphids. Treat your lilies before they become infested, spray them weekly, as long as the formula is mixed correctly you can't hurt the plant by spraying on a weekly basis. Good Luck to you and remember ladybugs are good for the garden.
