In the past we have used MSMA crabgrass killer. It works wonders. Just use the instruction on label. If the grass burrs are limited you can dig them up and throw them away in the trash. Remember if you go anywhere there are grass burrs you can transplant them from your shoes, tires and etc. So check everything before stepping/mowing on your own lawn. Good Luck in the all time fight against grass burrs.

Sand Burrs Seed blow in with the wind and the desert has lots of wind as you have found. Their isn't any way to prevent the Burrs from blowing into your yard, all you can do is rake them up. The only way to keep Sand Burrs from growing in the lawn is to spray for broad leaf plants frequently (once a month). Spraying will kill the plants when they first sprout and before they get big enough to make Burrs.

THEY ARE IN THE FAMILY OF SUMMER GRASSY WEEDS. THEY DIE IN THE FALL AND LEAVE A SEED, THE SEED GERMINATES IN SPRING. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET YOUR PRE-EMERGENCE WATERED INTO THE SOIL TO STOP THE SEED FROM GERMINATING. IF YOU HAVE SOME COME UP THEN USE A POST EMERGENCE HERBICIDE, MSMA AND APPLY IT WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE A CONSISTENT 80 DEGREES IN THE DAYTIME.
