Sometimes I go outside and use the sun and a magnifying glass to focus tremendous amounts of light onto small areas, lighting ants on fire. If I get them hot enough, they start to smoke and pop.

We are in Northern California where it does not frost more than a few times in the winter. We have a number of bell pepper plants which didn't do so well in the summer, but really took off in the fall. But when frost came, they wilted. Will they come back in the spring of should I yank them? Is there anything I should do to maximize their chances?

I live in Bakersfield, CA. I dont know what zone that is. I have a relatively nice small-medium size back yard... its rectangular with wooden fence panels on three sides. (my house being the 4th side). What is a good creeper/climber/vine that would cover the fence quickly, be easy to cultivate and require very little maintenance? Or rather.... for something who doesnt have green thumbs and very little landscaping knowledge.

Also would a hedge be more suitable? I want something that with spread and cover incredibly quickly.

I prefer to keep cost down and prefer not to use large trees. This borders my yard. My channel is being dredged right now and has a very earthy (not sand) soil. Ideally, the plant would be a ground cover, not something that needs to be trimmed every year or would block views. I have at least 150 linear feet to cover for my yard and would like to be able to cross to the other side (forest) and plant (no maintenance) something on the other side as there is no available water/electric on the far side.

If you're gonna say it can't be done, don't bother, cause I don't believe that.

I have a banana tree that has grown fruit this year. They are all green now, the top ones bigger than the bottom. I understand that they will begin to ripen once I cut them down. But if I cut them down too soon, they will be starchy rather than sweet. How do I know when I should harvest them?
