I don't know what you are doing wrong. Place it next to a window where it can receive sunlight coming through the glass, do not overwater or underwater it, once a week watering is fine, and fertilize it occasionally. If you follow this advice your plant(s) inside should stay alive.

If you are starting from seedling or seeds you need to have them in moisture, so like a mini hot house. You can acheive this by buying a seed kit from a retail store like Walmart or make one out of egg carton and seran wrap... once the seeds are planted you water the soil until saturated and place them in a non draft well lit area but not in direct sun, it is alright if condensation forms you want this...now wait until seedling grow....keeping soil moist; When they have sprouted you then can remove the top cover and allow natural light and air to reach them keeping the soiling moist allowing the seedlings to mature and once mature you can transplant into the garden or container; when planting them plant the seedlings in groups of two or three that way if one or two die one will still make it, when they are fully mature or look like they need to be thined to make room for the more strong plant thin the others out and you should have a happy garden.

It all depends on what type of plant you are trying to grow indoors. Most plants can be grown successfully indoors provided they have a good light source, well fertilised and well-watered.

Make sure the container never dries out.

It depends upon what type of plant it is. You need to find out what you are growing; and what it requires to successfully keep it.
