I have a banana tree that has grown fruit this year. They are all green now, the top ones bigger than the bottom. I understand that they will begin to ripen once I cut them down. But if I cut them down too soon, they will be starchy rather than sweet. How do I know when I should harvest them?

I'm not really experienced here but just basic instinct tells me that if the banana tree you own is the "same" as the banana trees that we get bananas from commercially that you should let the bananas on until they are comparable in size to the ones you purchase at the grocery store.

Again...I'm not sure but this explanation makes the most sense to me.

when the bulb on the end is big and fat and starts sagging break the bulb off and then wait a few weeks, this bulb is getting all the nutrients instead of the bananas the bananas will get really fat, once they are looking nice and fat break off the bunch and keep them somewhere semi dark for a few days they will turn yellow

after cutting the fruit you will now would desire to attend till yet another small banana tree starts off up from the roots of the 1st and decrease the old tree down,, in case you opt on extra fruit,, they in basic terms bare fruit as quickly as of their lives!!

For extra sweetness wait until they are almost yellow. Fruit is always better when it is picked ripe instead of green. No matter what the fruit.
