I live in SE michigan, zone 5, a relatively cold climate. I have a damp back yard with clay soil. I have put up cherry trees and arbor vitaes to try to make a screen.
The cherries died, and the arborvitaes look like they are about to die as well.
How about bamboo?

Had to replace the seed feeder as old one broke. Always feed birds in autumn and winter, same place. Now new feeder is up, birds avoid it like the plague. Do I just leave it and maybe they will get used to it? Or take it down and just leave the other one which has been there for years.

Does anyone know of a good gardening web site where I can find a list of what kind of plants and vegtables to plant and when to plant them ? I have for some unknown reason been bitten by the "bug" and am chomping at the bit to give it a try... I used to really enjoy working in my familys flower and vegtable garden when I was a child.

I would like to have some kind of plants or flowers to grow most of the year...as far as the vegtable garden I was thinking along the lines of the more basic items...corn, tomatoes, squash, beans, melons..things like that, but things i could grown and tend to throughout the year.

I know that this may seem like a big question, but I really think I can do this...grow things I mean.

Any advice ya'll could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Michael

I don't like pelates as they seem to suffer and could harm other wild life if they eat the bodies.

Is it invasive? And If so, will it spread in all directions if planted? Is it a border plant? etc.

I have a nasty neighbor who thinks they know everything... they want me to replace my dead pine tree now (Oct), but I was going to wait until early spring. We are in a HOA and they want our trees out!

I have one, but I can't find any info on it. It makes a pinkish/red berry in the spring. Their tart/sweet taste makes great jelly. My grandmother once told me that it would take 2 years for a seed to sprout.

Although the bush is called a Gummi, it is not pronounced like "gummi worms". It is pronounced like "goomi".

Any help would be great.

...My next-door neighbor keeps his yard like a jungle. Is there something I can do to make him clean it up, For God's sake I'll even help him!!
Reason why I wish him to clean up, is that we live in a tropical area and I am just concerned that we might get snakes or such because of that mess!

P.S
No, we don't have Homeowner Association

Ive just moved into a new house and my soil is in quite good condition at the top but about a foot down it is very compacted and clayey. In order to get it into better condition, i know i need to add mulch and organic matter but do I mix this in with the clay or do I need to get rid of the clay all together?
