We put up a bat house a year ago. There seems to be no sign of any bats stopping by. We installed it under the eave of a tall farm building, near a lake. You'd think the bats would love it there, with mosquitoes plentiful near the lake.. Any idea how to attract the bats. Location, Kentucky.

I'm giving it another go... I have a bright red lawn fungus/mushroom popping up on my lawn here, in Miami. Exotic, yes, it reminds me of the Epcot sphere but the size of a small animal, up to 4 inches across (already thinking of names). I'm trying the extenion suggestion but haven't connected, yet. The invaders have a putrid smell, attracting flys that crawl through openings that are part of the 'design' on the surface. They fall apart like a deflated cream puff when handled, are fleshy/slimy and have a pale to white base that attaches to the ground. Not star shaped, I've not seen anything remotely resembling these things. How's that?

I have a very large garden area, I need to fill with plants. I need plants that stay alive all year. I would like some that grow to 2 ft. or less. I have lillies(the kind you see a lot planted at businesses) and impatiens(sp) and they both do well. The garden has spots where there is full sun and some with full shade. Also I'm on a tight budget

I remember reading somewhere that you can use the manure of any animal that only eats plants, but i'm doubtful of whether to use it or not. can't find much info on the net about it.

I live in Georgia and got a few cuts from my cousin's gardenia. I have no idea what variety I have; in my cousin's house it has grown almost 5 feet tall. Keep in mind my gardener skills (-3) and the fact that Georgia clay is the most horrible thing to work with.

The cuts already have roots and I just need to know how to improve the soil condition and when is the best time to plant. I want to place them facing South, under the second floor's deck of my house.

Weeds have overtaken my small back yard. I have weeds growing, no grass. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of weeds. I have tried counter products like "weed be gone" from home depot, but doesn't seem to work.

I ran out of money this summer so among other things I stopped watering my lawn. It got hot. The lawn turned brown. Kind of cool, because you don't have to mow much then, which meant my boyfriend didn't lose those extra pounds he gained over the winter. But now with a bit of rain and some watering, my lawn has come back, but it's more weeds then just grass now. What are some steps I can take to get rid of the weeds and get grass back in place. (It's really the landlord's lawn, but he took $75 off the rent when I agreed to take care of it myself -- oops!)

I have a cactus in my yard being attacked by an insect and the insect sprays that I have used don't kill the insect and then leave marks on the cactus. The cactus have been where they are for more than 5 years and only recently did this bug appear. The insect attacks the newer growth and leaves white globs that when touched turn a deep red. I saw a documentary once that said this red stuff was collected to make a red dye. The actual name of the cactus is unknown to me. In my area they take young leaves and make "nopales" sp? after scraping the needles off. It is also produces a redish "pear" thing that blooms now and then. I have already chopped off affect section in one attempt to get rid of it and it returned. At first glimpse it looks like a white fly infestation. It is making the cactus look terrible and sickly. Is there a home remedy that would work? I was surprised when I used "home defense" insecticide and it failed.
