Why a home brew? You think it is safter than chemcials? Sodium can cause serious damage to the soil, chlorine bleach/gas is one of the most toxic substances on the planet. Alas, the vinegar is too weak to help. The industrial strength used for weed killing is not availble to the general public. Vodka.....more expensive than weed killer and not as effective.

Have you tried plastic sheets or other devices to smother the grass? It will have to say down a full growing season. Clear plastic might work faster as it cooks the soil.......then again you have to reintroduce microorganisms back into a cooked soil to make it work again (compost would do).

Home remedies take too long or don't work. The answer above is right. Don't use bleach or salts. Very bad for the environment.
The best of the worst worlds is go out and invest in Round UP.
It does brake down and it does a great job of killing your grass or weeds.

Dig a trench around, it cut it down as far as you can and then set fire to it. But make sure you stay with it so it dosent spred to anything else! Its the only way to kill off pampas grass and this sounds similar! By the way this is also the only way to get rid of rhododendrons. Good luck

I gallon white vinegar and 1 container salt mixed + 1 cup of vodka. If you don't have the vodka the application of vinegar and salt should do the trick. Reapplication of the salt watered in with hose can help too. You won't be able to plant anything there for awhile.

clorox will kill anything that grows, but again, you wont be able to plant for a while..how about just waiting for a rainy day and pulling out the roots? not sure how deep they go, have never grown oriental grass..good luck

boil water in a kettle and pour it over the area. the grass will die in a day or so and then remove the dead stuff and work the soil and replant.
