Weeds have overtaken my small back yard. I have weeds growing, no grass. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of weeds. I have tried counter products like "weed be gone" from home depot, but doesn't seem to work.

It depends on the weeds. The weed be gone does a good job on broadleaf weeds, but won't do a thing on weeds like crabgrass. Read the label and if you can apply it again, then do it. The fall is the best time to kill weeds. Then in the spring put down a preemergent weed preventer to keep annual weeds like crabgrass from growing. Mow the grass high. That helps keep new weeds from germinating.

Glyphosates, properly used, will solve every problem you ever had. More commonly known by Monsanto's trade name,
"Roundup" it is available at Home Depot. It is not cheap, but it works ! Totally non-selective, it kills about every weed on this planet. Mix to prescribed directions, no more, no less. It also comes pre-mixed. Suggest you do your own mix if you own a simple sprayer of 2 gallons. usually 2 gallons of water, 6 oz. of
Roundup concentrate, will kill 2000 ft.2 of any weeds you have,
turns them bright orange in 5 to 6 days with good photosynthesis,
totally systemic, the exterminated weed will not return for a long time. Spray in good warm, dry, weather, rain will dilute and cause not to be effective. Plant should take it all in in 24 hours on a warm, dry, day.

After you get rid of the weeds, healthy, growing, grass will need to be established, or they will come back again. Whole new subject.

My nieghbor had the same problem, no grass at all, just weeds. He just tilled the entire yard and resodded, instant gratification. I suggest you look into if there are any sod farms close to you, we purchased some directly from the sod farm a few years ago for 1-2$ a roll (approx 1 x 3 ft) as opposed to 3-4$ a roll they charge at the garden center. You may need to fib and say you work for a local construction co. Hope this helps.

Need to fertilize with "Weed and Feed" twice a year and use a turf builder and winterizer depending on where you live. My hubby and I just bought a new house and we have to do the same thing. Good Luck.
