Our letterbox measures 12" x 3" and I am unable to find a draught excluder which is long enough in UK. Most of them only fit letterboxes 11" x 3". Any ideas please?

I have an old wooden trunk/chest which was horribly varnished, it has since been sanded down but unfortunately b/f went over the iron detail on the wood (keyhole, hinges etc) and it has brought them up shiny, the trunk/chest now looks lovely all sanded but unfortunately looks too new as the iron work has come up shiny, I want to age the metal work again but have no idea how, any ideas anyone???

I have a tough toilet clog that I have tried using a plunger for several times to no success.

The problem is, the toilet isn't completely clogged. It flushes a little bit, but with no force, so it would only be safe to urinate in.

Are there any simple at home solutions I could try before calling a plumber. I don't exactly want to waste money.

It's a first-floor bath with a sliding door between a toilet and the tub - there's a sink on either side of the door. I'll tear out the carpet to save time and $, but there is linoleum under that. Don't think we need a new subfloor. I'd buy the tile, the vanities and the toilet if it would offset the cost. How much should this be? I've heard a range of prices that goes from reasonable to ridiculous.

There's minute gaps not much but there's electrical wiring running through those studs so is there a need to use like "Great Stuff" or caulk or anything to make it all a sealed wall before I tile? Thanks

I just bough this old cedar chest at the thrift store for 20 bucks, and I would love to refinish it but I do not want to harm it at all. It has no metal strapping or anything on it, I it constructed of pure cedar that is about 1/2 thick, the interior is in perfect shape but the lid and sides need some real help. The outside has some type of finish on it. Does anyone know where I could start with this
Thanks

I have a well that feeds the house. There is a large accumulator tank after the pump. The fella that put it together used 2" white PVC after that and fed the line to the house down into the concrete pumphouse floor (75 feet from the house) and he fed a similar line down to feed the irrigation pipes. Everything is 2".

I am planning on re-plumbing the system so that I can shut off the whole thing or just the house/just the irrigation. I also want to insert a whole house water filter in the line for the house. Most of the filters I've seen either have 3/4" or 1" fittings. Am I going to have any issues reducing the 2" line down to the smaller fitting and then back up to 2"? I'm sure that he reduced that 2" pipe down to 1/2 or 3/4 somewhere en route to the house's plumbing... I just am concerned about the effect (if any) of the extra reduction and expansion to accomodate the filter. I think the system is set for around 50-55 PSI if it matters. Thanks!

The grey plastic stem on the inside of the toilet that attaches to the handle that you use to flush the toilet broke. Now I can't flush the toilet by the handle. I have to open the top and pull the grey stem up to flush it. What is this part called and what will I need and have to do to fix my toilet??

Finishing my basement. Sewer pipe to city is 3 1/2 feet above floor. I have a sump pump well which runs year around due to "natural spring" under foundation. I want to install Shower, 2 sinks and towlet for bath and ult./laundry room

What system would be recommended to be "BEST" for this application, and any layout idea's, costs expectations, above the up-flush tank and plummer/electrication would be greatly appriciated.

I have some very old roughsawn lumber. I would like to use it for making furniture including some that could be exposed to water such as coffee tables. I don't want to sand the boards because the natural aged surface coloring and the saw marks are what give the boards their character.
I want to put a clear coat on the boards. I did a test on one board with polyurethane varnish and it soaked into the wood like water into a sponge. Even after several coats it still soaks in rather than covering the surface.
What can I use to finish this wood? Please help. Thanks!

I have a Bosch 12V cordless drill. The drill came with 2 batteries. Both batteries have not been holding a charge.
I have the choices of buying new batteries @$50-$70 each, Have Batteries Plus rebuild the batteries for $40 each.
Or trash the drill and buy a new 14V for around $200.Do you have anyother ideas? Which choice would you go for.
P.S. I do like this drill.

I have built a rectangular cabinet mounted on a wall, with intended doors that are completely flush on top, sides and bottom. When I mounted the first door on internal hinges, there is now a gap by the hinge when the door closes. I must be using the wrong hinges?

I have a concrete wall in the middle of the basement I want to remove. It is about a meter high and 10-15" thick, very strong.
I tried an elecrical hummer drill -- it will take forever. Explosives are out of question! Are there tools available for renting out that can do this kind of job?

I am currently asking this question in the baby section but maybe more people will know in Home and Garden.

I have purchased a 2nd hand cot and want to stain it.
What sort of stain will I need and what are some basic tips on getting started - eg hand or machine sand, what type of paper or do i use a stripping agent. Best way to apply?

Thanks for the help :)
