I am about to tile my bathroom. Have about 100 square feet to do. The builder (5 years ago) put down a decent looking peel and stick tile, but tastes change. Bought the ceramic tile I want, and started to "try" to get the peel and stick up. It has notched trowel marks under the few square inches I did get up, so apparently, it was glued down. It just breaks off in small peices. The plywood sub floor is very solid. What are thoughts on laying over existing surface
and, mastic or thinset, if I choose to lay over. I feel like I can "etch" the surface and clean it to accept mastic. Any help is appreciated.
Thanx

My kitchen faucet leaks unless I tighten the cold water real tight then it stops leaking. I replaced the rubber ring at the end of the faucet but that did not work.

I have a room used by a tenant before & just recently she moved back. She's very afraid of dust and dirtiness but unfortunately I still think she's dirty. The main point is she always keeps the windows closed and the doors closed, that the air in there is really different from the rest of the air in our house. It's really like a-little-choking kind of air, I believe it's 90% carbon dioxide? Cause she breathes is out when she's in the room and never ventilates the room. How to purify the air there like put some lemon grass (just e.g!) or what to make the air there healthier as a cheaper alternative to an air purifier? Thanks!

I'm thinking of installing an alarm system in my house. Im not looking for a central station alarm or something that I have to pay monthly for (like ADT). I just want something that will make noise. I've seen alarms like this at home depot, lowes etc. I was wondering if anyone had experience with any brands.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I need to patch a hole in a brick wall. I am estimating that I will need about a dozen bricks or so for the repair. I have done some re-pointing on my house before so I am OK with the mortar part. Just not sure how to cut brick. Do I use a chisel? Saw?

I have a small studio condo with no doors so sound travels. Is there something I can easily and cheapy put up on the walls to my furnace room to dampen the sound a bit? How about reducing noise from the air intake to the furnace?

Hi, would like to ask a favour of you. I would like a specific blogskin but i dunno how so was wondering if anyone out there could help. I basically wanted a black background and some thin pink candy stripes or cotton candy stripes, if you know what i mean on 1 side of the skin. Then overlapping about 1/4 of the pink stripes, add a few butterflies, flowers, hearts and kisses. They must all be in a baby pink colour and please don't put any human or animal pictures inside and don't answer this question anyhow cause its an emergency. So the basic colours in the skin are black, pink and white unless you take the cotton candy stripes, please put blue butterflies instead and the stripes the colours are a little like yellow, purple, pink, green, blue and they are all not the same size. Thanks alot

Please help. I have some icicle lights to put up outside on my window. I bought some suction cups and they didn't work so have ended up having to use insulation tape to attach the lights to the upvc. How else can I do it? Obviously can't nail or screw into the upvc. Help!

Yes, I'm chicken ~ afraid that I could mess up my beautiful old doors. I'm afraid of taking the drastic step of drilling the 2 1/8" hole [for starters]! I've got 3 doors that need locks; they're all beautifully refinished, heartpine [house is 100yrs old]. [& I hate the idea of messing them up anyway with a newly purchased lock, but the skelton key isn't quite adequate.] These doors already have the original cut-out in the edge of the door for the skeleton key mechanism insert which holds the knob. Of course, the new Dead Bolt would be put above this.

It's curious that I'm chicken to do this, because I have done eVeRy manner of house renovation task ~ from wiring and plumbing, to roof work and carpentry!

Maybe I should hold out and hope to find an old mechanism that will fit into the existing door edge cut-out, that has a keyed [not skeleton] element.

Please, tell me I don't need to be afraid to forge forward w/dead bolt installation; and what to be careful about.

I'm looking for a Christmas present for my dad, I want to get him a gift certificate, in order for him to buy the tools he needs for his woodworking shop. He is extremely gifted at making anything out of wood and usually will only buy the best. I have no idea which brandname is the best or which store or catalog would be the best. Please help if you can. Christmas is coming very soon.

I am hanging Christmas lights from right above the front windows on my house. The front windows are about 7 feet off the ground. I am looking to hang the lights right above them. My only problem is that the width of the windows is about 7 feet also. I am looking to plant the ladder right on the gournd but instead on the ground is a hole which leades to my basement window it is about 5 feet long (width). I have no way of getting the ladder there to string my lights. I tried putting boards over the hole and it did not work. I would have to put the ladder on the side and try and reach my arms over to string lights. I do not know how to get my lights in the up? Can anyone help me?
