My upstairs neighbors are very noisy. Do you know if there is anything I could put on the ceiling myself (without my landlord's help) like some type of layer that I could stick on the ceiling. Please let me know.
Thanks.

I am looking for a sealer to put on oak lumber. This lumber is going on a wagon that is going to be outside all the time and is going to be exposed to the elements. I want the sealer to last a long time also.

What do you do right now? You'll buy a plunger later, but what do you do right now to alleviate the problem? Other than scream, cuss, and throw a REAL fit?

I've got those electric baseboard heaters all around the basement but I also have a monitor, which I prefer to use. I don't want to use the electric heaters, and there's an outlet I need to use that's on the same circuit. I thought I could disconnect the thermostat and that would disable them - would that work?

I'm trying to convert a hand crank meat grinder into an electric one. I know that the motor and grinder need to be connected by 2 pulleys and a wheel. The motor I have is a 1/3 HP and comes from a dishwasher. There is some kind of coil in the wiring before the current gets to the motor. Do I need this coil/capacitor for the motor to work or can I just splice the motor to an electric cord and add an on/off switch?

I am replacing the toilet in my bathroom.

After I take it out, I plan on laying down a 3/4" piece of plywood to strengthen the floor. Then I'm going to tile it with 1/4" inch thick self-adhesive tile. Giving me a grand total of one inch of added heighth.

Don't I have to extend the flange, that the toilet bolts to, one inch to compensate? How do I do that? Do they make extensions? What do I need to know before I go and ask for the extension (if they make one)?

get in to the trouble of digging the cement up. I also want to spend the least amount of money as possible. I also just want to use a normal toilet and no water pumps or up flow toilets. So I have heard that you can make the toilet raised by putting it on a plat form so you don't have to dig up the floor or use speacial toilets. So i was wondering if any one has ever installed a raised toilet on a platform and if it drains properly. I also want to install a stand up shower and a sink. So I was wondering if it is possible to have the bathroom raised without no special toilets and digging. And would I be able to locate this bathroom about 25 feet away from the main pipe in the basement which serves the upstairs bathroom since the house is a bungalow. Also the main pipe in the house is 4 inches in diameter so i was wondering if the sink, shower and toilet could all be tied into the same sized pipe which would run from the bathroom to the main pipe where it would tie in. Thanx

I bought some new wall lamps that are wired for a plug but I'd like to have them hard-wired to a switch. It seems like you could just cut the cord and splice the wires to a new hard wire, right?

I'm originally from arizona so I am kind of lost. I'm in oklahoma now and we are supposed to get an ice storm starting tomorrow. I own my own home so I have to take care of making sure things are done. What do I need to know so I don't ruin pipes or anything with this storm coming through. Any ideas on any aspect of this would be greatly appreciated as I'm sure I've forgotten something.
thank you

I have a 3 ton unit and the compressor burnt up somehow. If he tells me the high shelf price will be about 1200 dollars to replace the compressor (that's parts and labor), should I just bite the bullet and buy a whole new system? What's the average life of a heat pump?

The deck 13’ wide and 14’ long and is constructed with pressure treated wood; 2X6 joists 16" on centre. Bolted to side of house + 2 6x6 cross beams supported by attaching to house and 4X4 posts. The decking is 1/2" PT material. The deck is about 10 years old and I was not around when it was built. The 4 man hot tub is second hand with no manual. I have no idea of how much the tub weighs. Living in Ontario snow load is also a factor. If the deck is not safe as is - what do I have to do to make it safe?
