I don't want to hurt them, just make them go away. Mothballs, amonia and bleach don't work. Can't use anything to harm them, my animals or any other living thing around them. Any suggestions on something natural I may have around the house?

Live trap them and take them to the country, close to a creek and let them go. They come to your house because you have critter food out for your other animals. You can normally borrow or rent a live animal trap from your Animal Control department of your city, or you can buy one for about $40. Opossums are harmless, but will eat you out of house and home.

I had a family of possums living under my boat for a little while, and never had any problems. The easiest, and especially natural way to deter them is with garlic or camphor scents, as they have a very acute sense of smell. As for your concern of hurting them (props :) ), don't worry- they're actually protected by law. They're apparently very territorial, so I would call animal control who can relocate them. Using camphor and garlic just pushes the problem onto a hapless neighbor when the possums find a new home.

Good luck!

Possums are reasonably safe animals. They don't carry rabies and they roll over and play dead when really scared. Just get a friend and go after them like you are a bear, growl and yell. When they play dead Use a heavy glove and pick them up and put into a box or trash can. Carry them to some other area where they will be safe, Be sure if the mom has babies that they don't fall off her. Release them as soon as possible.

If the possums are under the shed, you can place chicken wire around the base of the shed and bury partially in to the ground.
Also, any spots where any critter can get in, block with the chicken wire. Do this of course, when they aren't inside already...chase 'em out first!

Put a small barbecue grill inside the shed with a small amount of coals and some news paper. that will smoke them out without hurting them.

Have heard human hair works. Cayenne pepper works on most pests too.

possums are buzzards without wings. you need to get rid of the nasty bastards. if your city has a rodent control division they will come out and set live traps.
