I refitted my upstairs bathroom with new tub, toilet and handbasin. The stopcock sprung a leak in the middle of it; I replaced it with a new one - but now the water keeps flowing from the kitchen taps, even when I've turned the stopcock all the way...

By modern old house I mean it was built with indoor plumbing, electricity and natural gas for heating and cooking. Probably built sometime in the 40's or 50's and is on piers (pillars), has or had an attic fan for ventilation/cooling.

Is there a check list on how to inspect a house before buying somewhere on the net that I can print?

I put Advantix on my dog and a Preventik collar. I have sprayed the entire front and back lawn AND put down Diatamacious Earth around the perimeter. I set off 5 foggers inside as well as completely dusting the entire house HEAVILY with Diatamacious Earth which is STILL all along the walls of each room. I let the dog indoors for less than 5 minutes and BAM, I had to kill 5 ticks from the tile floor. I am LOSING IT. What can I do to kill these little bastards?

What are the consequences of doing electrical/plumbing/etc. without a permit?

After the house is sold, how long is any such work a liability?

My fiancee and I are attacking our second drywalling project. The first time we did our ceiling in the livingroom...and used regular paper joint tape. As time passed, we noticed air pockets appearing along the joints...as if the tape didn't stick very well (or was coming un-done) Now we are doing our entire bedroom...and were steered toward using self-adhesive joint tape(drywall finishing tape)...hoping to solve our taping problems. Now that we have much of the joints taped with this stuff (and 2 coats of lightweight...not quick setting... joint compound on) we are already noticing that the tape is pulling away from the walls. (like air pockets along the joints) What are we doing wrong?

I made my daughter a huge barbie house for Christmas and so far I have made furniture for every room except the bathroom. I would prefer to make the bathroom set myself instead of buying it. Any suggestions on how to make a toilet? LOL I can't think of anything to use. The rest of the furniture for the house came out great.

I was given a silver certificate from 1928. It lwas handed to me in a plastic protective cover sleeve, but the bill itself is a little (just a little) worn/wrinkled. Is there anyway to clean these bills to look new and crisp once again? I know it wont be possible to get it looking like a brand new bill, but maybe something close to it?

I have a Worcester (BOSCH) Combi boiler and when I top up the system pressure using fill valve the gauge doesn't move straight away but will have gone up to 2bar about 4 hrs later. Shouldn't this be instant ? What could be wrong ? The gauge reads 0 after about 4 weeks and I have to refill again.

my tile grout, which was done today, is 2 shades too light. i bought dove grey, when it shouldve been medium grey.

my idea is to get a small pint of darker grey paint and use a tooth brush to gently color it a little darker, and then use a clear grout sealer spray on it.

What other alternatives are there besides re-grouting???????

please help thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know how to make and print a simple booklet using a software.
But now I'm wondering, how can I staple it, because my stapler
is a typical office stapler and it wouldn't allow me to do that. Please give me an advice.
