what main materials are used to build a house or what are the main layers?

foundation-concrete
framing-wood
exterior siding-wood or vinyl or stucco(concrete)or brick(clay)
interior walls-drywall(gypsum) or plaster
roofing-asphalt or wood shingles, clay or concrete tiles
electrical-copper(& other metals), plastic
plumbing-copper or galvanized steel or plastic pipes, brass fittings,
rubber or ceramic seals
some older houses have pipes made out of clay or cast iron or aspestos(don't mess with this stuff)

timber frame, with brick outer and plaster sheets inside. there are lots of different types for different climates

Go to home depot and ask. They're all professionals and know what to tell you, most are vain and can't stop from bragging.
