I have a Howard Miller gfather clock. After starting the pendulum swinging without any interference, it eventually comes to a stop without any movement in the center weight. Needless to say, the left and right weights don't drop either. Ideas?

Your chains, and wheels need to be cleaned and oiled. Unless you know clock repair, you need to call a repair man. They come to your house to fix it. Here is a toll-free #1 800-556-6474 that is the technical support line for,the Klock-kit co. Maybe they can help you over the phone.

Did it ever work? Or is it a display unit, made for show n no go..?

If it indeed is a real working clock - check the rocker on top of pendulum. It moves the gears and ratchets back n forth every time the pend swings - therefore advancing the gears to turn the clock hands.
If it is a spring - check to see if the tabs at the end of spring have came out of their placement or worse rusted off.. Good Luck

Be certain that the weights are all the way up. Some movement have locks that are engaged when a clock is transported, be certain that it is the on position. If this fails, take the clock to a repair shop for cleaning and oiling.

Check to make sure the clock is perfectly level in all directions. If this isn't the problem the mechanisms could be dirty and need to be cleaned by a professional. Temperature changes can also affect the clock from working.
