I want to build a 12x12 concrete slab its only gonna be used to anchor some industrial metal shelving w/ sheets of metal or plastic for sides and roof, it will primarily be storage but will also be used to work on small motors and so will be exposed to gasoline, oil, etc. I live in CT and we get some real good freezes here how thick does the slab have to be? Do i need to use rebar? and can i just dig the hole and pour or do i need to do the whole stone and sand thing first?

We have a lot of little ants all over our kitchen. If I drop a potato chip crumb It's covered in ants within hours. we don't have much bug spray so right now all we've been doing is killing them with a paper towel and throwing them away but they keep coming back! What else can I do to catch/kill them?

i just helped a friend replace his old cracked, electric hot water tank. Everything was pretty much the same except for one pipe which we replaced that went from the electric hot water tank out to a shut off valve.

After we finished, we turned the electric tank on and opened up the valve that goes from a smaller tank into the hot water tank. However, now there is no pressure build up. Nothing is leaking and the tank sounds like it's filling up. Any ideas?

I bought my first cordless circular saw yesterday, and love the convenience, but having the blade on the opposite side to corded saws takes a little getting used to. Nearly all the cordless saws I've seen seem to be this way. Does anybody know the reason for this?

toad stools that are growing in my yard. They are there because of a dead tree root, was like this when we bought the house. Previous owners planted grass over the dead roots, the grass is beautiful, this is why we never had them remove the roots. My question is .. is there something I can put on these other than insecticides. Something that won't harm the beautiful lawn, but get rid of the toad stools.. Plzzzzz help..

We just discovered an oak floor under the subfloor in our kitchen. Unfortunately, 2 of the boards are warped. The remaining floor is slightly damaged but fixable. I really want to save the floor. Short of going to a salvage yard and hoping to find similar boards does anyone know of any secrets. Most say it can't be done but i have seen 2 methods on line. Have you tried any? 1) drill holes; wet board; then screw board down and fill holes (I don't think this would allow for the natural expansion/contraction) 2) remove boards; wet and place heavy object or vice straight and allow to dry in sun. I would greatly appreciate any advice, especially if you have been successful! Thank you! Christian

I want to install a laundry tub (sink) next to the washing machine in the garage. The only drain is halfway up the wall. The washing machine exit hose is currently attached to that drain. I figured I would let the washing machine drain into the tub but the tub will not be able to drain because the tub drain is lower than the drain in the wall. I could get a pump but I really don’t want to. Can I cut into the drain in the wall? Do I need to install a vent to let air out if I do that? Can I just cut the drain shorter? Why is the wall drain so high in the first place? What do you think?
