Seal concrete if you use deicing salts .Also seal cracks and Joints.
Seal asphalt cracks and Joints as needed Seal the top to keep the oil in the asphalt from drying out. Look for dusting on the surface.
Can't just go by years because age of drive , just like every thing the older the more often maintenance is needed.

3-5 but you shouldn't use the crap in the home stores. Your driveway will last longer if you pay a company to do a "hot seal".

I HAVE BEEN AROUND A LONG, LONG TIME. I HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD OF OR SEEN ANY CONCRETE DRIVEWAY GETTING SEALED. AS FAR AS ASPHALT DRIVEWAYS-THEY ARE SOMETIMES SEALED TO PREVENT DAMAGE FROM OIL OR FUEL LEAKS BUT NOT USUALLY.
